05 XB12R gas smell from fuel vent hose

I've had my Buell for 2 years now, bought it with 12K miles and now up to 21K. I noticed after riding for 30+min, I smell gas when I park the bike. I checked the vent hose and it is fuming gas to the point that gas spot appears on the ground directly below the vent hose (and little drops of gas will form at the bottom of the hose). I noticed this last summer at the end of the season, but thought it was because of the hot weather. I took the bike out yesterday (50-60 degrees outside) and it was doing this again. I read on here that someone else had this issue, but it was more or less from the heat of the engine causing gas to evaporate when it was parked. My issue is that it didn't do this for the first year, and now it does. Any ideas?

Not exactly sure but the Vent diaphram up near the top of the frame area Front right on an XB, near neck of the filler cap. OR how far are you filling up w/ Fuel? Don't fill above the lower rim area. Or it will bleed off just from the heat from the engine itself. Could be you need the the part called [fuel cell vent] make sure to get the o'ring also.don't know the year of your bike/type ect.so the dealer will have the proper part number for that.

The bike is a 2005 XB12R. I've had the bike for two years, been filling the same exact way the entire time. I don't fill above the lower rim area. I pulled up the service manual for a 2005 XB12R, and Figure D-5 shows the evap line where the fumes and drip are coming from (item 4 in the figure). My guess is the valve itself is malfunctioning, because I don't live in a really hot climate (Pittsburgh). And this problem just started at the end of last summer.

Before you change the vent, pull the airbox cover and check the hose routing. A SWAG is the difference in fuel, we have a lot of ethanol being added and that may be one part we all may have to look into. Looks easy to change.

Humm actually had a little fuel come out of there today when I pulled it off right after a ride. =(

hey quit smelling the tank vent hose..ha ha ha that aint good for you.
The tank when hot will expel fume until it cools. I jammed a golf tee in mine when I was parking it in the front room and pulled it when it cooled off. you can try that ti see if its fuming somewhere else.

It's a fuel overflow hose....I swear some people just look for probelms on their bikes.

It's attached to your gas tank, of course it's going to smell like fuel.

If you fill it up and ride it a short distance, it'll puke fuel if it "topped it off". That's the idea of an overflow hose.

If it's not making a mess or creating a hazard, you're good.
