My boss has been holding a bike for a while, with intentions of selling get it. He bought the 05 xb9sx off the original owner with about 3200 miles on it. It practically hasn't even been ridden yet. It still has under 4K miles on it and is super clean, stock other than Jardine exhaust. Starts right up and I've taken it on two rides! It's a fun bike for sure, and I love the growl. Anyways he wants $4000. Granted I live on Kauai so it's a small island and everything is more expensive here. Any thoughts on price?

It's a judgement call on your end, just because it has low milage and is in good condition doesn't mean it's worth that much $. Now, living on one of the islands, might make it worth it but that would have to be your call. See if there are any other xb's for sale there and compare, if it were here on the main land, I don't think there is anyway he would get that much $. Check out shiping prices also, I recently picked up an 07 ss with a lot less milage on it than the one you mention, for a lot less $. I see other bikes in the pictures background, is that what your boss does, sell bikes ? If so, from your research, you might find out that he indeed is asking too much and let him sit on it for awhile and then, make an offer or, he sells the bike, in which case, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Good luck.

the bike as pictured has a few goodies added...and is missing a few OEM goodies. having said that hero blue is very desirable and a cityX is a great version of the lightning....very desirable and 05 the first year. with that mileage and the fact that you know ownership history and how it has been treated $4000 is very fair regardless of locale.
suggestions: check the VIN for the KX sequence numbering. that will verify it's a true cityX
add frame pucks(still available) to give it a later cityX authentic look
lastly....BUY IT!

Thanks for all the responses. I've checked out Craigslist and haven't found any Buell bikes. It's safe to say this could be the only or one of two or three on the island. Anyways I'm going to spend the money. I will check the vin. Any maintenance tips would be greatly appreciated. I am going to check the belt out and the tensioner bearings. Change the oil and filter. Oil weight suggestion? Also any maintenance that wouldn't be so obvious before I really start to ride her. Thanks for all the help!

my pleasure. if the factory tool-kit and owners manual still with the bike most of your questions will be answered in the manual. downloads of factory service manuals available on this site.
engine oil: any conventional off-the-shelf works fine as these motors pretty gentle on oil. it does NOT have to be cycle specific or synthetic. you can price shop for your motor oil.
if constantly below 60F go with a 15wt-40 like shell rotella T
if constantly above 60F go with a 20wt-50 like whatever is available.
your primary housing holds 1 quart which pulls double duty as trans lube by passing thru "windows" between the primary assembly and the trans assembly which is inside the rear portion of the engine cases. XB's are jap- like in that the engines are unit contruction design. BE PARTICULAR HERE WITH THE OIL!
NEVER EVER use "car oil" in the primary. same weight considerations as with the engine oil i outlined above for you.
if amsoil is available go with 20wt-50 motorcycle oil in the primary. if not then be damn sure that whatever you choose it is JASO-MA rated or higher. or higher means MA...MA2...MB. i don't know what oils available over there but any cycle shop should have what you need or go online.
the 2007 AND UP TOYOTA YARIS 1.5L oil filter fits all XB's. do NOT use a crap-mart house brand filter. buy quality. suggestions are wix....hi-flo...K&N....bosch.....BUY QUALITY HERE!
check battery condition...cable cleanliness and tightness...and never forget these bikes hell on batteries.
lastly words of wisdom: if you forget everything else i mentioned try and remember this: XB's are heat-sensitive. what does that mean? 2 particular things. one is that high air temp stop-and-go city type traffic will eventually cause near catastrophic problems if repeated enough times. and the other is that these motors MUST be brought up to operating temp before being heavy handed with the throttle or exposed to high revs. failure to do so WILL ALWAYS result in blown-out cylinder base gaskets, cam and lifter problems, and the eventual destruction of the oil pump drive and driven gear set

Nice bike, low miles, fair price considering you are on the Island with limited Buells for sell , Follow John's ^^^^^^

Fringe. Thank you for the thorough post. Very helpful! I will take you advice! One question though. Do owners have common tricks of making sure the buell stays cool if a lot of stop and go is done? I will use a high quality 20w-50 and filter. Most engines I always let get to operating temp before I push them but I will definitely keep this in mind.

Adding a Right Side Scoop (RSS) is a good and inexpensive addition. Just note that if it's really hot outside and you're stopped, listen for the signs of overheating, pinging, sputtering, lack of power.
My experience in 100*+ Florida is that it takes quite a bit to overheat them. Even splitting lanes at 20mph with stopped traffic can be enough to keep the temp reasonable.
Listen for the fan. Just being on and off is not a problem, but if it's running 100% of the time, give the bike a rest.
