I currently own a 06 ulysses in excellent conditions with 18k miles, the only problem is that being a short rider I do struggle slightly with it but have still managed to make it work. I was thinking of trading it for a 08 xb9sx with 7k miles mainly because if the height issues. I just wanted someone elses opinion before I actually went through with it.

If you don't need/use the Uly specific features (off road capability & luggage), I say go for it.

meade: in my stable is a 2007 Uly and a 2007 city cross. i'm 6ft and 195 lbs. the Uly requires a bit of an acrobatic right leg swing to clear the bags and mount. the ergonomics once seated are extremely comfortable for a guy my size with 33 inch inseam. on the other hand i find the city cross short, stubby, compact, nimble, but cramped for anything over 50 miles or so. not faulting the bike in any way as it's a great piece of machinery but just tight in the legroom area for me. but for a shorter rider i suspect it is about perfect. the city is geared shorter than your uly so be prepared for higher revs per gear.

I wanted a lightening but they are too small for me at 6'4" so I got a Uly, I think it would be right for you.

how short are you
Im 5'5"... I thought about it already and although i do believe the size of a lightening would be perfect for me, I just love the offroad capability of the uly.

I am 5'7", 200lbs and ride an XB12X with a lower seat. I really do like the height of the bike especially during rush hour or in any traffic situation. It seems like I am at the height of a pickup truck and have a lot of visibility, even when 2 up. I have done some mild dirt riding to look at ranch properties to potentially purchase, and noticed the bike is a lot more manageable with a 190/50 rear tire. Seems more stable and just a little lower to make it more manageable to stop and get off the bike when looking at a barn for example. The bike is extremely well balanced for a dual sport type and with the rear tire change seems a little lower geared also good for off-road use.

Personally I would miss the height and how plush the bike rides, the rear tire change and lower seat is all I needed to make it more manageable for me. I do use the peg as a left foot step to climb up on it before throwing ye right leg over, kinda like a horse mount. One time I accidentally hit the shift lever with my left foot before I could throw my right over while it was running and dropped the bike, so now i always put the clutch in if the bike is running before mounting it.

I'm 6'2" have a ULY for distance/ trips. Have a XB9s for local/ day rides. Have to stop 50/75 miles to streach the knees. Love both of for what they are.
