I have an '07 xb9r firebolt that has a ground in the wiring for the fan. Have the main wiring harness removed to where I am able to completely remove the wiring. Problem is that there ia not visible damage to any wiring on the main harness. Fan hasnt run in a while even with 45 minute rides in 70F weather. Any possible ideas?

Is the bike stock ? Do you have mods and what are they. The fan could be fine engine temp sensor could be bad but it should throw a code then.

I feel like an ambulance-chasing lawyer, but....

I have a spare (used) fan for an 07 XB9SX for sale if yours turns out to be bad.

45 minute rides in 70 degree weather was not enough to make my fan come on. Are you sure you have a problem?

Its all stock, no mods at all.... unable to code it at moment since I dont have a code reader and bike is not in ridin condition curently. Blastoff99- how much would you be willing to sell it for? Ground only shows when ecm and fan are connected into the main wire harness

You don't necessarily NEED a code reader to pull the codes from the bike... There's an alternative way to read the codes stored in the bikes memory...

Section 4.7 and 4.8 of your manual show you how to pull a trouble code through the check engine light, via it blinking the two digits of the code out for you... All you have to do is count the first and second digit and look at what the code refers to.... It's a really good idea to go and download the manual for your bike man... It answers anything you'd ever need to know about troubleshooting or repairing your bike step by step...

If you'd like me to line out the steps for ya... I will...Just lemme know

Tony, I've got the fan listed on Seattle craigslist for $80 I think. Shoot me an offer if you're interested.

I can't guarantee fitment, but it sure seems like it'd be the same fan for an r and an s. Check your parts manual to be sure, blah blah blah.

:)

Negative - I cant get my hands on a manual to actually use to figure it out. Harley shops here in Hampton Roads VA dont have the ability to get one for some reason and its pissing me off. Any ideas where I can get a hardcopy of the manual?

Blastoff99 - it should be the same size fan, otherwise I could strip out the motor coil and replace it on mine. I will try and find it on seattles craigslist.

Pretty sure the fans are the same... As far as I know, the difference between the R and the S is nothing mechanical... Just the cosmetics, the location of the ecm, the key, and a few other small bits.... The bikes are fundamentally the same...

EDIT:

Sorry tony apparently me and you were typing at the same time...

You can download the manual from this forum for free and print it out (that's what I did... Just added it to my collection).. I can list out the instructions for ya if you'd like man... Lemme get to transposing the steps... Give me a min...

Ok ... here we go ... Sorry I have to actually type them out and all buuut ... Gov computers won't let you download anything from a website unless it's approved so I can't go and download the manual to this computer and post up pictures of the manual for you to follow... and most websites are blocked by this ridiculous censoring software the military has on it's network ... (i'm honestly surprised I can even get on here ... most forums are expressly blocked) ...

1) Locate your data/diagnostic link connector ... that's the connector under the front fairing for the R's where you would plug in to use ECMspy
2)Jump terminals 1 and 2 in the connector with a wire .... if you are holding the connector with the clip on top that's the two wires on the right side of the plug
3) Turn the key on ... in 8 seconds the check engine light should be flashing out codes to you

Now the codes are put out in a series of steps ...

First, the check engine like flashes 6 times very quickly (3 flashes per second, known from here as the "intermission" between codes). Then, there is a 2 second pause and it flashes slower (about 1 flash per second) to indicate the number of the first digit of the code. Then another 2 second pause leading up to the second digit, which it shows you in the same manner.

If you have more trouble codes it will flash another "intermission" signal leading up to the next code. The codes are always first digit, second digit, then an "intermission" flash. It will cycle through all of the codes in memory from first to last and restart again on the first one. Once you have recorded the same code twice you can turn the key off and stop the process.

Voila!

Negative - can you shoot me a link for the manual or email me the file?

Blastoff99 - if you still have it on 15th, I will take it off your hands

Hahaha.... I'm getting the next to last wave of parts in today for my 9er and I'll be wrenching like a muhfucker this weekend on it... =) glad I can help broski

Tony, I do have another bite, but no money has changed hands. Hopefully you won't need my fan after all, but if you do, I bet I'll still have it on the 15th.

I'll update the for sale thread here.
