'08 - newer "learning" ECM's

Quick question. Okay....ever since I read that the '08 - newer ECM's stay in Closed Loop pattern, I've been wondering will it work with the '07 - older Lightnings? I mean, I bought the cable and plan on using ECMSpy, but would it be simpler & safer to just "plug" in an '08 or '09 ECM?

won't run like it's supposed to.

the engine's of the '07 & '08 are different. you can not interchange those ecm's.
