Hello,
This is my first post and new to Buell and was looking for some advice from current owners. A 08 XB12r came up for sale with 3700 miles on it, never been crashed or dropped as the bike looks new except for a couple of stickers that are not original. The dealer is asking 5800 for it. Is this a good Deal? Does it have to many miles for an 08? What should I look for? What questions do I need to ask the dealer before purchasing this bike. Thanks

There's lots I can't think of since I'm not buying but some that come to mind are:

- Check tires. Will you need some soon? (may be an argument for dropping price some)

- Check for signs of being dropped. There'll be scratches on the frame, bar ends, passenger peg brackets, headers, or swingarm. (not necessarily a deal breaker unless frame, but another place to argue price)

- Check for abuse. Are the rear tires bald in the middle from burnouts? Is the oil overly dirty from not being changed consistently? ...and just overall appearance.

- Peak through where you can to see the cylinder heads looking for oil spray on top or leaking around the gaskets.

- Above all, ride it if possible, for as long as possible. Make sure it tracks good and the front brakes aren't vibrating badly (could be warped rotor in front)

That's all can think of right now. Good luck with the search. [up]

I would say that is a good deal. Post some pics and we can prob tell you more about it. Offer 5500 though. What will it hurt. Good luck!

The two post above are spot on. Mileage is right, Was that 5800 out the door? prolly not. 5,800 otd would be sweet as wine imo. though someone on this site "i think" was asking less for his awhile ago, course he prolly wasnt close to you. having already bought a used 08 12R. I'de feel O.K. with offering to pay the license and doc fees on top of the 5,800 if need be, but not much more. But thats up to you. Be nice to them and maybe they'll be nice to you. DO IT!

Ok weather up here sucks right now so dealers are disperate. They dropped the price to $4720 and threw in a 3 year service plan that includes everything plus tires every 12 months. The only problem now I have is it will be financed for 4 yrs and the plan is for 3 yrs. Should I jump on this deal while I can? How much does it usually run for yrly services if needed? Thanks again for your advice.

JUMP ON IT JUMP ON IT JUMP ON IT good deal man by the time the warrantyruns out you'll have an idea of costs involved for maintenence good deal man they cover new tires to **** you better get it b4 I do tires can be 230$ and up so...

Yearly you'll need a 3.5 quarts of oil per change, a capful of grease for the clutch cable and axles and and possibly tires themselves, some plastic polish and cleaners. thats the cost, which is the important thing. What they charge? I don't know. Its easy to maintain yourself with a few common tools if that helps. If you can swing it, do what strmvt says. Even without tires and service 4720 with 10% tax is a nice price imo
