1125 NHTSA Investigation

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I wrote a complaint to NHTSA on every safety issue that arose in my eyes. It is your duty as a consumer to report issues that may endanger your life or someone elses life due to mechanical failure!

My title has "Harley Davidson" in it I think..when I get home ill re-post on here.
Can anyone verify that, by looking at their bike title?

"I know, all I do is sit back and laugh at that website. Hey Badweb 1995 called and they want their website back! Lol "

Except weren't you the first one to post this over there red93stang?

I don't know why you guys bag on bad web....no one ever gets flamed on this forum.

he was trying to share something useful about a potential fix for the problem, and it got shot down. Im speculating he is a lot less likely to share new information about it now. People get flamed here for being stupid not trying to be helpful. This thread is a perfect example. Read the responses here and compare them to badweb about the original content.

I just think it's amazing that HD only has 30 days (ish) to respond. I understand that most of the info requested is just a database query, but still...

I was thinking that too. Especially being in a time of year when many people take vacations. I bet they were scrambling.

My Title says Buell. Yeah, I checked out Badweatherbikers and there was a dickhead or two. BAF is so awesome the rest of us should go get vasectomies so we don't continue to spread our inferior genes.

Does anyone else think that Harley was just trying to, as I said "kick the can down the road"? Is it possible they knew of the problem and the safety issues, but thought the harness modification would just get them to the green zone and cover their ass? Prolonging the inevitable until Buell was gone long enough to say, tough shit? That's why it's important to file the complaint. They are trying to find gaps in Harley's truth. If it's discovered, Harley knew more than they reported to the NHTSA, they are going to be fined big time like Toyota did. They are required by law to report known safety issues voluntarily.

If they knew they had to modify the rotor, upgrade the voltage regulator, upgrade the stator, etc. to correct the problem permanently but they played dumb thinking the cheaper and easier harness upgrade would show they took action and clear them long enough, they'll be in trouble. That would mean they weighed the costs and decided saving money was more important than our safety. Anyone seen Fight Club???

I'd imagine a IRS audit is less intimidating than that letter from the NHTSA. They can't tell the NHTSA to fuck off either.

Submitted my Complaint

This is awesome. There are 30 complaints for the R and 30 complaints on the CR

Thank you very much for posting this.

60? That's a good start. How do you know the complaint count?

I have submitted a one for my CR, too, by the way.

I think a fair settlement would be a straight swap for an 1190RS. ;)[up]

Exactly! Like Baf says over there is that all he wants is a refund on his problems with the stator. All he bought his bike for is to ride and not complain. HELLO!! The only way to get his money back is to complain to the NHTSA or just ride on the coat tails of those that do complain.

Put your complaints in we need HD to fix this issue and we all know that the harness wasnt the solution! It's in your best interest for resale value as well.

It's just like I said over there. I can't enjoy the bike I bought to ride if the dang thing isn't even safe to ride. I can't go riding down the road when I get voltage spikes and my tail/brake light don't work and my headlights blow. That guy really pissed me off over there with that comment.

"I get voltage spikes and my tail/brake lights quit working"

I had this same issue while riding to Chicago and back to Indiana with with a bunch of Buells! So why did that guys truth piss you off? So because you haven't experienced this issue it can't happen. I was fing lucky I was in a group of bikes and didn't get run over by someone who didn't see me that night!

I should of quoted Red I was refering to the Baf guy. He was over basically making it seem like why is everyone complaining, he just goes out and rides his bike. He was making it seems like why complain just because his bike it working. Well then the thread wasnt for him then but some of us would love to just ride and not complain but our bike are currently garage decorations because this issue has not been addressed and corrected. It seems like this will hopefully move things in the right direction because I for one am tired of dumping more money into my 7000 mile bike then my 30000 mile one and I'm still worried it will leave me stranded when it is actually safe to ride.

Yeah, nothing like making payments for a motor cycle, and can't ride on long trips away from the house, because I'm worried the stator is going to fry any moment! I am on like 6k since the last stator replacement. Just a matter of time until I'm stranded and I hope it doesnt happen during rush hour on a highway!

I've only got about 1500 miles since my new stator and now I'm having regulator problems. Have a brand new stock replacement that is still causing the same issues but worse. Now I have a fancy garage decoration. Hopefully one day I'll get to enjoy my 1125 because in the 6 months I've owned it it hasn't been fun and I'm seriously debating selling it. My friend is about to put up his Speed Triple that I've liked since he got it. Might have to sell and pick that up, he has never had one problem with it that has left him stranded.
