1125 NHTSA Investigation

It's just funny to see Froggy and Baf's comments on this over on badweb. You would think this is going to come out of their pockets to pay for HD's/BMC's f'up.

It just boggles my mind that they defend the issue just because they haven't had major problems dealing with it. Just because it doesn't happen to them doesn't mean it isn't happening to other people. Baf said in that post about what's the deal you still have headlight etc. Well if your stator ends up blowing your VR which is all stemming around the same issue I hate to tell you but you are going to blow a headlight and will possibly not have tail/brake lights either. I know it has happend to me. For those two being such huge posters over there and loving Buell so much you would think they would like any problems with them to be fixed to draw more people to love the brand even if they don't make them anymore.

I should pick up an 1125 cheap now and have harley fix it when they bite the bullet :D

I filed complaint because I almost had a wreck. I called HD customer service and was told they had a recall in 2010 and they fixed problem with new wire harness. I called NHTSA and they show the 2009 CR is still under investigation on the electrical system/ charging system. Problem is, Im still paying on a bike I can't safely ride. I continue to blow headlights and the instrument cluster turns off when driving and the bike turns off in motion . OH SHIT MOMENT!!!!!

Now I kinda know to be cautious of it and meerly grab the clutch, coast to side of road, put kickstand down, yell at it, kick the tires repeatly, give it the double 'middle finger salute', and then turn key off and then on and it starts. I then ride home and curse Buell and HD the whole way home, lol.

I love my bike but I can't continue to pay for something I can't safely ride. Im looking into the Triumph Speed Triple R.

Installed a replacement voltage regulator and got a whole 63 miles out of it, WOOHOO!! This time I was going to work, at night. Yep, speedo went out and lowbeam flashed and burned out. I flipped highbeam switch and a second later, FLASH and it burned out. OH SH*T!!!! I had to use traffic around me to see roadway and limped it to work. I had a bunch of vehicles honking at me to turn on my lights, lol. 'I can't turn on what I don't have people, sorry'.
I filed a second complaint with NHTSA and its going back to shop, again. Im already going on over $120 worth of headlights and $200 for parts and labor getting voltage regulator installed. Hopefully something gets done before this thing gets traded in for something else, maybe british[smirk].

Took bike to my buell mechanic (local guy) and was told he wanted all the 'homework' on the CR faults with charging system and stuff and willing to take the challenge to fix it. I told him about the EBR rotor mod and MOSFET regulator from roadstercycles.com and the re-wire from Ricks motorsports electric and such. Said to give him a couple days (maybe by next Friday) and will do all kinda tests and stuff and hopefully have it in a position for a permanent fix. Informed me that HD had same problems on some of their bikes and pretty much knew what he was in for.

Anyone else have some more ideas or info I can pass on to him? If this fixes problem, I will pass info on to the forum and NHTSA. Thanks ML/TRR.

Nothing new on my side. Mechanic checked everything on my charging system and the AC electric side showed ok, voltage regulator was showing 14.3-14.4 volts and he mentioned the ohms were showing 6 and the service manual showed it to be WAY lower than that (like .1 or something outrageously lower) but couldn't figure what to replace. I told him to get new battery installed and put bike back together, detail it extra nice looking, and its going to the next dealership I find that will take it as a trade-in. I still owe I think $4k on it but if someone will atleast take it and I don't have to pay anything extra, I think it will be history.

Im not sure if the wait for HD/BMC to make a decision to fix it is worth the wait.

I think Im done with Buell. I have been eyeballn' a 2013 BMW S1000RR and might be tradin this thing in. Of Course unless EBR decides to give everyone who has problems with the CR a replacement bike, like the 1190RS.:p

Something like this

I still haven't heard if HD/Buell is gonna do anything with this issue. I got bike back and mechanic and I decided to NOT try and start throwing parts and money into this issue. My stator was putting out around 41-42 on the 3 leg phases which is basically the spec but the stator ohms were higher (.6-.7) and spec is like .1-.3. I tried to put another headlight and it blew it out, again, lol. I think this bike is gonna be a 'carport decoration' for now till I can sell it or trade it in.

Exact same thing I'm dealing with except my stator is testing within specs. Tried two different VR and still got the same issues. I put in a HID so I don't blow headlights but it still shuts on and off with voltage spikes. Still not able to find what it's caused from. Also switched out ECU's just to check that and still same issues. So far I have a new rewound stator, two new VR's, switched ECU's, and pulled all grounds cleaned and reinstalled and retightened battery. Still not fixed and I can't even sell the damn thing like this cause I wont get crap for it with these problems. If I could sell it, it would be gone.

I was gonna try my 2008 ECU from my old 1125R and see if it worked, but since you tried it already, I guess that idea is out. Mine will be a 'carport decoration' till its paid for and then I will go from there. My local Ford dealer said they will take as a trade-in if I decide to buy another mustang or shelby.

I've just been riding mine and dealing with it which I hate. I usually tend to only ride during the day so I don't have to deal with not having a headlight here and there. Once mine warms up and I shut it off and on a few times it goes away and will be fine when I ride it till I stop and let it cool down some then it starts up again till it's hot and I do the start and stop again. Kind of gotten used to it but when I take it out at night I have to sit there and let it warm up then cruise it around the parking lot and do the turn off and on thing till the voltage regulates again and goes steady then I'm good to ride which really sucks when you are riding with friends and it takes you 15-20mins to be ready to roll. So haven't been riding if I can't take my time.
