Hey guys,

So since the 1125's use a ram air type intake system, there would be no benefit in an air box delete or open air box mod such as on other Buells? It would actually possibly hurt performance, yes? My buddy just bought an R and the 1st thing he did was put a k&n filter on it, yank the inner air box out, and drill holes in the outer cover in front of the fuel cap like the XB's. I can't make a comparison between his R and my Cr because my Cr has an FMF pipe, EBR ECM, k&n filter, upgraded Mosfet voltage regulator, and wrapped headers. Mine is definitely a better running bike and his "modified" R sounds and runs like crap to me. It's all stock except for those mods he did to it and a Jardine pipe. I'll bet it's running waaay too lean now, ya? Just curious on if he's in the right or not.

Are there any other performance mods I need to do to my Cr?

I have both the CR and an XB12S.

I agree with your first statement on the ram air effects. It doesn't work if you open or remove the box cover...!
You may pick up some "cool" noise you didn't have before but there's nothing you can do to regain the effect of the ram air...except to put the stock cover back in place.

The XB is a little different. Mine is an 05. The left side scoop will direct cooler air to the airbox, but it's not ram air.
Modifying and or removing the stock airbox cover "may" lean the system a bit. But the newer XB had a "cut out" cover on them. For these to work the best, the little thumbnail opening behind the fuel cap needs to be the open screen and or the earlier modles like mine need to have the "thru the tank" passage remain open.

Once one starts screwing with either / or the exhaust and the intake...furl and ignition timing maps...REQUIRE" changing for the engine to be happy. Simple as that.
Will the engine still run..sure, probably. Will t run as well as it "could" run...not without modifying the fuel maps..

My old 04, 12R was a snap to remap, my 05, S has been a bit of a pain, but it's almost there.
MY CR has had over 100 different changes done to it. It's finally running well in most areas of the fuel maps.
Well worth "my" learning curve...learning how to do all of this remapping.

IMO not a good idea. I tried the open air box mod at the track and the bike slowed down.

Look at the Pegasus Typhoon and the air inlet on that bike (under the lower triple tree). The 1125 platform could really benefit from that air inlet duct. There have been a few members who have epoxied their OEM inlets and reshaped them to capture more air. If you were to look at the 1125RR or the 1190 you would see that they have a different frame than our 1125's. The neck area is different as it is smaller which allows for a larger air inlet and duct.

Mike1125R grafted a Buell XBRR ram air to his bike (quite nice I might add). Granted this only moves more air at speed and probably does very little if anything while cruising through town.

+1 to you both! Thanks for the input. I had a Lightning Long for awhile and I did the air box delete because tests actually showed there to be gains from that with proper tuning, as you mentioned Mike. I haven't heard of any positive results with an open air box on an 1125. He gets a cool intake noise, but other than that the bike runs like a piece.

That's a pretty slick setup, Puzzled. I'm going to do some research on possibly making a bigger passageway to move more air.

The Glendale Harley guys installed the upper fairing airbox inlet to their Bonneville XB series bike with good results also.

Wonder how I could go about mounting that somewhere on my CR....!?!?

On my bike it will. With that said I don't need the cluster. I would have removed it however apparantly the computer needs to see it. This is a dedicated (will be when I finish it) drag bike. I don't need no stinkin' gagues....... ;)

On Mike1125r's bike his ram air allows you to see the gauges due to the two ducts joining farther up.

Keep in mind both of these setups were for XBRR's and we grafted them to the 1125. On an XB the gagues are laid out slightly different.
