1125r lacking power and grunt?

Hi All

Had a good ride out on my 1125r today and was left feeling a little dissapointed.

Handling is excellent once you get used to it.

It just doesnt seem to have the power or grunt a bike should have with close to 150 horses at the crank.

I should say im 18 stone thats 250lb in american,I'm still taking it relatively easy and I haven't exceeded 8k rpm yet but something doesnt feel right.

Up to last year I had an Aprillia RSV Mille R and that seemed more powerful.

3 years ago i had a XB12r firebolt and that seemed to have more low down grunt. (I always regretted selling this as it was the most fun bike i've ever owned)

maybe its just that the 1125 has a very flat power delivery and its kind of deceiving. You dont really hit any powerbands and there isnt a lot of low down torque for a v twin.

Does anyone else feel like this or have I just got a knacker?

Also its the noisiest engine ive ever owned and ive had a 996

At least the 996 went relatively quiet when you were moving but i can hear rattles, taps and clunks all the time on the 1125.

While I'm not positive...I'm betting you (Euro?) have the same "lean running" problems we (US) do.
My CR ran so bad...it sat for over 8 months until I could modify the ECM.
Yea...it was that bad.

The Ohio Sport Bike program really helped me work out the fuel and timing problems in mine.
Note, that the Dyno Jet guys also have a new box for the 1125 engine. There are actually a few ways to not work out the problem.
Call or e-mail EBR (Erik Buell Racing). They should be able to help with your problems pretty easilly.

As for the noise...no clue. Some people have complained about noises, mine, while different than a Japanese engine, isn't really noisy.

Get that ECM worked out...

P.s. - just to note...I'm also 6" and 245lbs.
Getting on the freeway yesterday...at about 8500rpm...the handle bars went limp..read that the front tire was off the ground...with no clutch, no pulling on the bars..etc.

This isn't the "winner" at 4th for hp and 3rd for torque, it's not even fully tuned, but this will give you an idea of what the buell race ECM can do with a good exhaust system.
The blue line is stock. The spread between this one and the "winner" was .7 hp and .6 ft/lbs tq. At about 82 ft/lbs peak tq and only 10-12 lower to start with, these motors have plenty of "grunt". That's at the wheel. Almost 138 hp @ 9900 rpm. Not bad at all for a discontinued v-twin.

Not sure what year you had, or if this is even the real average, but a buddy of mine has a tuono rsv 1000 and my 1125 would spank it even when it was stock. There's no contest at all now, so much so that he's going to get either the v4 aprillia or the new BMW.
I guess he's tired of losing all the time.

If it is bad as you say, there may be a problem with it somewhere. To give you a comparison since you had a 996, I raced a guy with an 04 996 with my stock CR and totally smoked him. It was so bad that the next week he went and bought a CBR1000RR.

And yes...the engine is very noisy.

Had its firstb service today and dealer test rode and said it was as good as ny other 1125 he'd rode.

Maybe ive been riding my hayabusa too much.

Look at ur Air Fuel Values front and rear, if they are around 100 its probably running correctly.

Mine are the exact opposite, 100 rear and 95.5 in the front. I have been getting codes for the front 02 sensor problem. I just figure its probably due to the Cali Can that I added for the fuel drip.
