I have a xb12s but I have been thinking about the 1125r alot lately. I feel like Im cheating!

I test rode one before settling on the XB.
Similar handling to the XB but that Rotax motor is in another whole league altogether! Still not a super-bike but a big improvement over the HD lump if you are looking for the HP to back-up the chasis. Very fast-revving and lots on the top end.
Beware of the ubiquitous leaky hydraulic clutch though!

The 08 hydrologic clutch is a easy cheep fix. The 09-10 electrical problems are what to watch out for

I suppose if by "cheap & easy" you mean $300 for parts, another $300 for labour, months to obtain the back-ordered Rev C kit, and the possibility of the leak re-appearing within a year, then sure, I'll agree...:D

I'll definitely second the need to watch out for electrical issues too!

Ok cheep to do your self because it is really easy and cheep compared to electrical fixes

As a matter of fact, during my pre-purchase due-diligence on an 1125r last year, I checked with my local HD parts counter and was informed that there was no longer a 'kit' available to correct the leaking clutch, and that I'd need to purchase the entire clutch cover assembly which was going to be a $1500 touch.

Knowing how clueless many HD parts guys are, I am sure there are other less-expensive options, but my point is that an off-warranty 1125r can get expensive fast.

Well i guess my bike came with the new cover and i bought the revised piston for 100 through ebr not sure what the cover costs but i would be willing to bet it's still cheaper than electrical.
Can you tell i hate electrical problems lol

Yea, an acquaintance of mine had a low-mileage 1125cr for about a year. His clutch was fine while he owned it but I recal him having some random electrical issues with gauges, lights, an starting...

Both of those issues are fixed with non HD parts... EBR offers the clutch actuator upgrade kit that fits all revisions of the clutch housing...

They also have a rotor upgrade that cures the burning stator issues.

Both are pretty easy fixes that most can do in there garage.

Got a chance to ride my sons 08' 1125. I have an '07 bolt. WOW! Very similar in riding but engine was Smooth. When I put it away I niticed both rear directions where out. SMH.

I had an 08 1125cr for about a month, was an awesome machine.. But was plagued with mechanical issues.. The most dreaded Stator/ charging issue.. the bike would straight die on me in the middle of intersections! took it to Harley 3 new stators and batteries later still a dead weight on rides.. With HD mechanics hand scratching there heads i was like F that and gave her back.. Nasty beast but not reliable by any means..

Idk mine hasn't let me down once I think there just one of those bikes you take care of her she takes care of you.

Whatever...the 1125cr is absolutely awesome. Your gonna have to learn to turn a wrench....but if you do it its done right. I've had a lot of really nice bikes and its top 2....next to my ol standby the vrscd!

I do all the work on my CR and have not had any problems. I have a shot battery but my stator will still charge it and I have 15k miles. I also have fixed the clutch weep in a day and I also adjusted the valves myself. Im 22 and work in my one car garage with no special tools.

I think she is kinda easy to work on but you cant be afraid to turn a wrench and also have people undermine your bike. A dealer tried to offer 3500 for it.... are you kidding me?

daskingtiger,

They didn't make a cr in 08'

I've owned two 1125r's (both 08's) my first one suffered from clutch weep, my second had a newer cover. Other than routine maintenance and replacing some wear parts and a Speedo sensor, I've enjoyed about 20,000 worry free miles between the two bikes.

Doesn't matter what kind of bike it is, its going to need attention from time to time, especially if you're riding it hard. My xb had issues too, rear rocker, fouling plugs left and right, etc. You can find a nice 1125 for around 5-6 grand...you'd be hard pressed to find more bang for your buck for that price point. Not to mention when I lost my first 1125 i test rode about 8 different bikes and most of them felt like flimsy pieces of crap in comparison.

If you're a sport bike owner and your not prepared to deal with issues then you're playing the wrong ball game.

Dead on. Just picked up a 1125cr with 1200 miles for $5,500. Riding up here in cool northern michigan I am hoping to avoid the stater issues.

Nothing wrong with turning a wrench. I have done ALL the maintenance on ALL my bikes for over 2 decades, but I am not an owner who is prepared to spend more time wrenching than riding.
Any of the Japanese litre bikes will run circles around the 1125 all day long if you just put gas & oil in 'em!
