Any of the Japanese litre bikes will run circles around the 1125 all day long if you just put gas & oil in 'em!

That's a pretty far off statement. My buddies 2011 r1 has spent more time in the shop than its been in the road, my other buddies 2010 cbr1000rr has been a basket case as well...they all break! Sometimes its the luck of the draw.

Fix the electrical issue right the first time and spend more time riding than wrenching...

I agree.... I rode my 09CR for 12000+ almost trouble free miles.... When I took it apart to do the Valve adjustment I did the clutch actuator and the rotor just for the hell of it, Neither were acting up at all. I also replaced the battery while I was in there but the origional was still going strong.

The one issue I did have was a water pump coolant leak... I probably lived with that for the last 3000 miles or so before I took it apart for the valve adjustment. I replaced the seal while apart for the service.

When the bike was still under WTY They had to replace the speed sensor for the speed o cutting out.

Other than that I just do mods and maintenance!

My buddy has a 2010 KTM RC8 and he has the water pump leak as well and has had some oil leaks... He also has done 1 battery. He has Brake squeal problems but I had rotor buildup issues...

I would put them at the same level for maintenance and reliability.

I wasn't saying the 1125 isnt a great bike. And I sure didn't mean to imply that there aren't anecdotes and individual cases of bullet-proof 1125s, and lemon R1s or CBRs, but the general verdict in the research, publications, and forums is that if reliability is high on your priority list, there are other bikes to consider before the 1125.

Well said. I do believe however, other than some minor issues the 08's have been pretty good to most people. The later years the same cannot always be said. Iv'e seen some dirtball lemon jap bikes, and I have seen my friends ride ones for years and am amazed that they still keep ticking considering the beating they go through Still, even if one would have to fix the charging issue, and a few other small things, he (or she) would still be operating on a much lower price point than buying something from say the big three, or various other brands out there.

Like a lot of guys on here, I've been around bikes for quite some time, and have owned everything from 70's honda cb's, a tl100r, a K1200r, the buells, etc and have spent substantial seat time on plenty of others. I still say if one is looking for the best "bang for your buck" the 1125 is still the way to go.. even with its quirks.

Not going to outrun a cbr1000 or an R1 down the straights but I'd sure as hell rather ride a hooligan bike than ride a bike I see four of every time I run down to the store.

There is certainly the 'unique' factor that Japanese liter bikes are somewhat lacking in (though that crossplane R1 motor is pretty awesome!).

The other penalty you pay with something like a CBR is that it is almost too technically perfect to be exciting. It does everything so well that it becomes kind of boring! It's limits are also so far beyond what is possible on the street, and even on the track for most riders, that you're left intentionally inducing some imbalance into your technique just to TRY and upset the bike to make it more exciting!
