As the title states, is it necessary? I read a few Threads that indicated if you hear it, get it done. I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle the job myself! I could swing the cost of labor through HD, but not sure if I'm wasting my time...

Coming up on ~11,250 miles...

Yes, do it. It's not that difficult of a job, frame removal _sounds_ scary and all that, but it's really not that bad. Just take your time, mark and bag everything. On average, I'd say probably 1/2 of the time it will need some adjustment, mine had 7 out of 8 that needed shims on the first time around. Special tools if you don't have them would be feeler gauges and a vernier caliper, I'd recommend a dial one since it's hard to screw up if it doesn't have electronics to get fried. Other than that, basic hand tools, rear wheel stand or a full bike lift if you can get one, along with a small floor jack to support the engine.
