Anyone ridden one of these? I'm considering buying one. I know they don't handle very well but they're supposed to be flat out dragsters.

i rode a new 2011 model a couple of months ago courtesy of a neighbour who works for yamaha. I didnt flog it as it only had 400kms on it and the road was damp so was fearful of binning it. Power was awesome and really smooth also sounded great ..i kept rolling on hard then backing off for a great sensation. Handled much better than i expected and wasnt top heavy like i first thought, actually it felt balanced,. Comfortable and the high bars felt right. A lot of bike for a lot of price. Here in Aus. you cant test ride the new ones as dealers dont carry stock.its order only. I would buy a diavel if i had the coin and wanted a power cruiser though.

Faster than **** but real expensive and really heavy. They are close to 20K I believe state side. Way too much for a big ass power cruiser for me. I like them, don't get me wrong but... [confused]

I did a view km two week ago... and riding buells I did not like it at all. Its too heavy too much torque, the brakes are a joke and the suspension anyway. If u need a muscle bike I recommend a ducati diavel, looks great and rides much better and the Vmax, I like it a lot but don't have the money.

Abelcool1 its a 2003 with 7200 miles. Factory teflon black. You can see it on craigslist St louis mo.

Brutally powerful is how I'd describe them.
If you want a fast drag bike right off the showroom then buy a Busa. If money doesn't matter and you want something faster than that buy the new BMW inline 4. Last years model did the 1/4 mile running mid 9's. There isn't production bike faster.. well except for that fellow on here with that "superBuell".

Can't afford a Busa or a Beemer unless I finance and we're not doing that. This would just round out the pack. 09xb12ss, 03 Triumph Bonneville T100 and ???.

A friend of mine used to have one. They are a great bike although "quirky". The sound they make with an aftermarket exhaust is absolutely unholy! [cool]
Nothing gets the Hooligan inside you going quite like having the front wheel leave the ground with the back tire ablaze in smoke. The mighty Max will do it.

the VMax is a bike i believe every rider should experience. It is nothing more than a ridiculously powerful rolling engine for a rider to try and hang onto. they sound like Satan on meth. they make you feel like a frog strapped to a bottle rocket. and at the end of the ride you will either cower at the power, or itch for another go at taming the beast.

Now another thing to keep in mind is they require endless work. Carbs need to be rejetted the tuning always goes off, the vibrations shake everything loose, like a buell but 10 times worse. rear tires melt away rapidly, it's heavy and you're often traveling fast so the breaks go quickly. I plan to own one, but it will probably be the most impractical horse in the stable

Well I brought it home about 2 hrs ago. I test drove it and it did'nt seem to vibrate much, but that super trapp exhaust is loud!,, for me at least. Has two sets of baffles, the other being alot quieter. Brakes seemed soft and it is heavey but balanced. I've owned a v-twin cruiser of about the same weight so that did'nt bother me. Its really a good lookin bike. Factory teflon black with silver racing stripes on the tank. The seller even drove it almost 30 miles back to my home. I got a good price, I think. So I'm Good.:)

dang, i knew a little about them

but just did some more reading

and holy hell!! 175 ponies?!? with a slipper............may have to check into one of those, throw the loudest exhuast on it possible, get rid of the dorky mirrors and make it look "sporty cool" [up][up]:D

A buddy of mine has one, and is putting on a supertrap exhaust, is putting a v-boost controller on it, and then a tune.

He is pretty excited. I have not seen it yet, but when I get home, Im going to go check it out for sure.

I rode one back in 99, and it was insanely powerful for a stock bike. I just took it down the road and back, but it was fun.

Pretty. Bad A$$ bikes. I ride with a dude that is a VMax guy and he has one that makes almost 200 HP and runs in the 9's.
