Posted this with my last bike but now I have a new bike with the same setup. 03 XB9R with the Buell Race Kit.

So my problem is when pushing along in 5th gear roughly 6300rpm full throttle my bike just bogs right out. I can back off the throttle and cruise at 125-130mph, or so the speedo says, but nothing higher.

I am not sure what the problem is so can someone help?

Note this is my second 03 XB9R with the same setup so I am know it isnt any bad parts and I doubt it is in need of a TPS reset, so I guess I am asking if this is where the 03 R's top out or is it just the bikes I have? My girlfriends 03 XB9S and it tops out around 140mph but also has the race kit, so I figure it should be a little slower due to aerodynamics but it isnt.

Also this is all on a closed course making it all perfectly legal...?!?!

xtremelow,

Sorry for asking a question that is not on point.

I have always liked the air scoops you have installed and was wondering if they work??

Thanks,

~PD

Bike runs good so I would assume they work. Nothing I can really do to "test" them to make sure they work. I would recomend to use heat paint as I did since the right side is so close to the header.

The design in it's self will force the air onto the heads but other than the obvious design I really can't show or say anything that will prove they work better or worse than the stock style scoops.

Ok did the reset and the problem is still there....... Not really but say I did the reset and the problem continues what else could it be.

My laptop died (completely worthless need a new one) so I don't have a computer right now to use. So I am stuck with my Iphone for Internet.

Plus the bike has low miles and had the reset done not to many miles ago at the dealer when the race kit was instaled, also I don't see how I can have two different bikes that are setup the same and both have the TPS settings be off the same amount.

I guess I will just have to wait to get a new laptop so I can do the reset then go from there to why else it could be.

No performance stuff came off my old bike, just levers, seat, pulley, stabilizer, stuff like that oh and I run 93 octane.

I dunno man. Maybe your piston return springs are wearing out. [confused]

It has to just be a major coincidence. Is your air filter clean?

It has a nearly new on race filter.

Hell I guess it is better chances that both were in need of a TPS reset from the sounds of it.

I guess my thoughts were that the injectors were unable to keep up at that high of a rate this the shutdowns.

I have my 03 9R and I topped it out at like 130 - 135 but I wasnt looking down very much

race kit
breather re-route

xtremelow, my old bike was also a 03 xb9r. it toped out around 125mph also. your g/f is lucky i guess to have a fast xb9.

Speedo may just be off that much as well. I hate to say that bc i feel like people just tend to blame speedo errors for everything. Does the bog sound like you are bouncing off the rev limiter? or is it a genuine "i can't handle this much fuel!" sound? Also, I have been wondering for a while whose bike that is. Those colors are gorgeous!

The bike definitly is NOT hitting the rev limiter. It is just running short of fuel.
I imagined the injectors aren't meant to hand that high of a fuel flow.
I will definitly have to hook up a GPS to get an accurate speed on both my bike and my girlfriends. Although I did go faster on hers it really didn't feel faster.
Now hearing from other 9 owners I would believe this is just all they have power wise unless you do some mechanical upgrades.

Drifter I would love to take credit for the bike colors but as many know my bike was totaled out and I bought Sedars of the forum, then did some of my own personalizing to it.
