160hp XB?

We got a guy in my town that dropped some kind of a big-bore kit and some head work into his XB12 Lightning..he claims 160hp. It runs like a bat out of hell and and hes got oil leaking from his back cylendar so something was modded all to hell..but 160hp? Is that possible with normal asperation? I forget the displacement, it was bigger than 1300.. but still, 160? Sounds fishy to me..

Oh heck no. I've seen them put about 108-112hp Max. The only way to get those numbers is to put some awesome turbo kit on.

Its got signs of heat problems.. and the compression sounds pretty high in the in the exhuast note. I think he said 14-something in displacement..I wonder what hes REALLY got in there?

Chances are he's got a big bore kit and a stock map, so it's running REALLY lean. I doubt he's got a real tune. But even at 108hp, you can lift the front wheel in any gear.

to 501, he didnt say anything about his top speed, but from what I remember, he said he was making 160HP, although he could have said 140hp I dont remember but even that is too much I think. When he gave his HP and displacement figures my head started spinning. He said it with such conviction that I was inclined to belive him until I walked away a few min later and started to think hard about what he had just told me. haha That motor was in there just pounding away.. I saw him about a week later riding it and it was a fire breathing dragon going down the road.. it definately modded to the gills in terms of displacement and the compression sounded high to me at the time... it was lighting the back tire like crazy. The back end was all over the place.

Guy is bullshitting you. Oil leak on the rear cylinder does not mean its modded. Rocker box leaks are very common on XB's.

He's a young kid, something like 19. When I was 19, I don't think i even knew how to read a speedo. Maybe he doesn't either.
