I have recently swapped over the stock carb to the HSR42. I cannot for the life of me get it to hold an idle. It will start and I can run the throttle up with ok response but I am focusing right now on trying to get it to idle. All settings on the carb are from the factory. Any pointers or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I haven't started my s1 since I bought the hsr42. Its in project form. But I do remember the mikuni manual it came with had a very good troubleshooting/tuning guide.

I used the tuning and troubleshooting and it will not idle. If the choke is pulled out it will, but once the choke is closed off it will die. [confused]

It is a new Mikuni HSR42 kit that I purchased with air cleaner. The bike was used with he stock CV carb. Could the new pilot jet that was installed in the kit be wrong? I wouldn't think so, but I have seen weirder things. Thanks

It is from Force Motor Products. It is the Forcewinder kit which was a carb, airbox and all needed adapters.

3 things will affect the idle. Pilot jet size, float height and the air/fuel mixture screw. Well, 4 if you count the actual idle speed screw. I assume you've screwed the idle speed screw in some to raise the idle?

Looked at a pic of one, on the left side in the front is an adjustment screw, that's probably the air/fuel mixture screw. If memory serves, it should be 4 turns out (as a starting point) from a light seat since it's on the filter side of the carb. Check the manual that came with it, it should tell you where to start at.

The adjustments it said in the book were the Pilot air screw, 2 turns out which I did and also the accelerator pump adjuster screws which was 2/3 to 3/4 adjustment. Maybe I am missing something.

The 2/3 to 3/4 was throttle engagement. It determined the start of the throttle and the end of the push on the pump rod.
