Hey guys, I've been looking everywhere but can't seem to find a photo with 2 up on a Lightning. Does anyone have a photo they can post up or maybe even get there wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, pet monkey.. to jump on the back and snap a photo. The reason for this is that my girl friend thinks that this bike is strictly a 1 up bike and that there is hardly any room on the back to sit.. shes barely pushin' 130lbs... and I don't think it should be a problem at all..... but if anyone can help me out with convincing photo or even a description... I would greatly appreciate it. And yes I realize the best thing to do is go to a dealer and sit on one with her but the nearest in stock lightning to my area is about 2hrs away. oh and I'm looking at buying the Lightning S or the Scg (Not an SS, I'm too short)

thanks
meetch

The fact that there are passenger pegs should end that debate. However I will say this. Its not a great 2 up bike. My girlfriend is 5'2" 100 lbs and she can't go for rides longer than 40-45 min. Its just too small t enjoy w a passenger imo. We're either gonna get her a bike of her own, or buy a touring bike to enjoy together. Either way, I'm keeping the Buell.

If she will be riding with you a lot, I would buy an ss or uly, or look at another manufacturer. Or get two bikes if you have the money. But if she's only gonna be on it once in a blue moon(dont guess, really think about it), then get the bike you want and she'll learn to deal with it.

My girl rides with me on my Bolt all the time. And id imagine its way worse than a Lightning.

My wife rides with me quite a bit, granted I have an Ss but you have to think about all the CBR's, GSXR's, etc that don't have much of a passenger seat at all... Just tell her she has 2 arms and she can just hold on.... Other than gold wings, I don't think there are many bikes where the passenger is comfortable, let alone sport bikes....

My girlfriend rides with me all the time, if your short and shes not too big its pretty good. I had a GSXR750 before and it wasnt very good because she would sort of sit half on my seat and half on the passenger seat. If there wasnt so much snow and i could get to my shed id take her there and snap a picture for you.

hey meetch, i'm riding a brand new ss and I took my wife for a trip. It's not a goldwing, but the handling is still very good, I never felt we were switching positions on the bike. The only anoying thing is we keep banging our helmets. But today I saw a couple on a BMW funduro, and altough the bike seems larger, I had the idea that actually there was not much more place on that bike compared to the lightning

Thank you guys for all the great responses, and Lefox for the photo. Looking at the photo it might not seem like the most comfortable for her.... and in all reality she is use to the R1 and doesn't really complain much ....well I guess we will have to just wait to actually have the bike here and test it out with her on the back... if that doesn't work then I will just have to keep the R1 on the road for her. Nonetheless thank you for the quick responses.

I had my wife ride with me to laughlin from Vegas a couple of years ago (220 mile round trip) and now she never wants to do long rides again.
( Just a tip )

The only anoying thing is we keep banging our helmets.
LOL I hate that! The back of my Icon will permentently be scuffed from my girl on the back of my bike...

I wonder how hard it would be to make a mini-sissy-bar?

Something that would bolt on where the tail-light attaches, and just come back an extra inch or two and then curve up about an inch.

Seems like this would at least make the passenger feel a little more secure.

I'll draw something up this week, and see if we can get something that would look decent.

Hard to see, but here's kind of what I had in mind:

my g/f goes for rides with me quite frequently. up to an hour or so, and she's wanting to go along for longer rides when we have days off. so I'd say go for it! :)

Urban Assault, if you can make those I would definitely buy one, just let me know how much. I've looked all over and had the same idea. All you need is something to catch her when you crack that throttle. There isn't all that much room, enough for an hour round trip she says, and my necks stiff from keeping my helmet from hers.

Ventura is a bike bag company that looks like they have a good bag-holder/bar frame assembly that they can custom-make for Buells. You can convert it from tall bar to hold a bag or two, to a short upright w/ small rack, to a small pillion grab bar. Might work well to be a grab-on. Here's a link to the grab-bar (small) option:

Fahren,

That's kind of what I had in mind, but I'd like to do something that looks a little more sleek.

Also, It looks like that attaches to the stock turn signal mounts, so anyone who's done the tail chop can't use that one.

I'll see what I can come up with once the weather warms up here.
