Hi im new to this forum and looking for some help.
I puchased my first buell last spring a 2000 buell x1 with 5000 miles from a harley/buell dealer. The first problem i had was on the 80 mile ride home from the dealer the voltage regulater went out i bought a new one and bike ran good for about 100 miles then it started having a miss if you would load the motor good say driving in 4th gear at 50 mph then opening it up it didnt hesited like some it missed and barley wanted to come out of it. Now it has gotten way worst i ran the bike out of fuel filled bike up now it is running very rich will barley run or start plugs are black and you can smell gas raw rich gas bad i have only put 350 miles on bike and the dealers not to big of help just wondering were to start sorry for the long post THANKS

Are your exhaust headers tight against the heads. I'm more familiar with the carb fed S1, without all the computerized EFI. But I had my header nuts back off a little and it ran the same way you're describing. And I thought maybe an exhaust sensor might not be sensing properly, and causing a rich condition?? Just a shot in the dark. It just doesn't sound like something that would relate to the voltage regulator.

Just checked the headers everything seems tight and no signs of any leaks it started when driving down the road it would surge back and forth once and a while after bike ran out of fuel is when it got way worst after refuelling the bike barely made it home if you gave it more thank 1/4 throttle it would fall on its face until you backed off now it will barley start if you give it any throttle it will die thanks for the help

have you got ecmspy and cable ? if not get it and learn to use it (easy), you will struggle to maintain the dfi without it.
Running out of fuel is not a good idea on an x1,the ecm sees a lean mix and adds more fuel to compensate.
You need to reset the AFV with ecmspy also reset the tps and check for error codes.
Good practice is to make sure your battery connections and earths are clean and tight and the battery is fully charged. X1's do funny things with low battery volts.

Thanks for the help were is the best place to find or buy the ecmspy and cable i have looked around with no luck. The bike came with a race only ecm and buell pro series exhaust with the ecm spy will i be able to tune the race only ecm thanks

Here's the best place to get the ecmspy cable. You will be able to tune your race ecm.

I don't own an x1 but I was told not to run them out of gas. When you run them dry the ecm thinks its running lean so it keeps dumping fuel in and screws up the afr. So when you start it up it's way too rich. A air fuel reset with ecmspy should clear that up. Or ride it at around 3500 for 5 min. or so should let the ecm relearn.

Thanks for all the help so far. I purchased a cable from xoptiinside.com and have been reading on how to use it since. Will i have to buy the $170 program from emcspy.com to reset the tsp,afv and check codes or is there a similar program for free? I dont think im ready to start changing any map would just like to get bike to run and do more reading on the mapping part before i spend $170 thanks

hi i just recived my cable when i pluged in my cable to the computer it loaded it and sayed ready to use but when i open up ecmspy plug it into the bike it says failed to get com port any help thanks

Did you load the driver? Did you have you key on and the kill switch to run position. Also try open ecmspy, then plug in your cable to your computer. It can be picky.

Thanks i got it to work now I have reset the tps and bike will now start and idle but the headlight will come on with and off if you rev it up a little light will come on at idle it will go out know it wont come on unless you turn the key to the middle part of key switch

well bikes been on the dyno for 3 days. we have been doing nothing but taking away fuel on every part of the maps bike would not pull 6000 in high gear. Found out that the bolt came out out of the pipe that holds the baffel in so every time it went past 2500 it plugged the end of the pipe was at 28 rwhp before 89 after loading stock maps back in cant beleave all this time it has been something so simple. we are going to work on the mapping somemore now what is a good hp number for a 2000 x1 with forcewinder pro series exaust and custom map just looking for a good number to shoot for thanks

got it running good now with hp numbers at 88.20 at 6800 and 73.66ft-lbs torque at about 5500-6200 these numbers seem good ?

Seems close. My 00 X1 made 86 HP and 79 ft lbs when I lived in TN on a dyno jet dyno. One note my Air fuel ratio was good at the torque peak, about 12.5 but was WAY off at abot 10.5 at HP peak. This was with a force pipe, K&N and a race ECM.
