I recently bought a 2000 X1 Lightning and I am wanting to get it up and running again. Long story short it needs transmission work and it sounds like it has a bad crank bearing. The knock is very loud and coming from the bottom end but only at idle or slightly higher. What I want to know is how complicated is it to attempt the repairs yourself? I have no special tools so I will have to buy them but I figure with the money i save from the $85/hr at the Harley dealer I would be able to easily buy them. If someone knows of a cheaper option such as replacing the motor that would be great as well. I cannot seem to find any for sale.
