2007 xb12r clutch

hi, can anyone tell me why my clutch lever became loose in about 5 miles so much that my bike stayed in gear and would not disengage? i have just recently purchased this bike and I AM IN LOVE!!! i have had it 1 weekend and already added 200 milesany insight would be helpful

Only a guess here but sometimes the clutch cable will stretch and not break completely. Can you look up by the handle and see if there is any fraying?

Inlcude more specifics about your bike. IE: Mileage and year.

My cable was shot at 28,000 miles but it was still working only because I just happened to catch it right before it broke.

If you can see the cable to be still in good shape take the clutch inspection cover off and pull the clutch in and see if it is fully rotating with the cable pull.

Hopefully it is only a cable failure.
