Hi everyone, first I would like to thank all of the people who have contributed to this great resource that is Buell XB.COM! I have found a lot of the information to help me on my journey with my ulysses on this site! You all are saints often answering the same questions over and over. I’m getting ready to do pre-season service and have a question.
Going into the 2024 season I did fuel system maintenance consisting of a rebuild on the fuel pump, cleaned the injectors, ultrasonic cleaning of the intake manifold and new intake seals. I put about 6000 miles on it for the season. At this point AFV is 107.5 in hot weather and 100.3 on the cool fall rides, the bike ran much smoother and the off idle backfire i had previously is almost gone!
I'm getting ready to prep the bike for another riding season. On the list this year are new front brake pads, replacing the female half of the infamous 77 connector as I’ve had to monkey with it a few times because of falling voltage levels. And reset torque on the steering head bearings as they have loosened some since I installed an all balls kit.
Over the summer I checked the fuel pressure while chasing a rear o2 inactive code. The pressure held steady at 57 lbs for as long as the pump was running but when it turned off the pressure fell to zero in about 10 seconds. Is this normal or should I pull the pump and find where it's leaking down? If so, any tips on how to test the pump while it's out of the bike will be appreciated. Other EFI systems I have tested have held residual pressure after the pump shuts off so I find this odd.
