I've recently acquired a fantastic 2008 XB12XT. Full bags, GPS, 2100 miles and in like new shape. I love it.

My outgoing bike was a 2005 XB12 Lightning, which I also liked, but the Uly is better in every way for me except one - the Uly seems to be geared taller (numerically smaller) than the Lightning. The Uly is quick, no doubt, the the Lightning seemed to have noticeably better punch, more so than the 50 odd pounds difference in weight would suggest.

Is there a gearing difference, either in actual gears or sprocket count, between the bikes? And if not, could the ECU mapping be different enough for me to notice in this fashion?

Thank you,
Ron

ron: i thought all 12's geared the same but might be wrong as i am in many instances. if there is a diff it would be in the primary drive gears, not the pulleys i believe. someone chime in here. brian??? sean??? mark??? lesley???? bolt??? damn it...anyone?

Well, I did more reading and learned about the TPS reset procedure. I performed that and wow, huge difference. Part throttle response is better, idles better, and it seems to have recovered to nearly as good as the Lightning.
