Hey guys, my 2009 1125r just doesn't seem to be charging up to what most people with healthy stators say they stay at. When I first start the bike and ride for a few miles the battery charges to ~14v. After a while though it basically fluctuates from 12.3-13.0 and doesn't go any higher. I've tried cruising at ~5,000 rpms like a lot of people say they do and also at ~4,000, but it's always the same either way. Is this a sign of the stator going bad? The bike has about 980 miles on and will be going in for it's 600 mile service friday. I'm also pretty sure it's not under warranty so if the stator does go bad I'm quite honestly not sure what I'm going to do...

Common problem with 09 1125R. Download the Electrical diagnostic manual from UKBEG website and it gives a step by step guide for a competent person to check alternator output. (If you can read and own a basic multimeter, it's a very simple check BUT make sure you carry out the check on a hot engine.) Mine failed 3 weeks ago and rather than pay £850 + vat for a new OEM stator, I removed the offending article and sent it to a specialist for re-wind, all for the princely sum of £126.00. I now have a fully functioning charging system. Happy days.....Good luck.

Ok cool thanks. My dad is an MMI graduate and I have both service manuals for the 1125, so I'll check it out. Also good to know I can get a rewind for 600 dollars less [up]! One more thing, is the rotor swap that EBR offers worth it? I've been looking around but I can't find anyone who has done it and posted results of their findings in regards to oil being able to cool the stator.

I was having a similar problem. I had the stator replaced last summer at the dealer. Every so often I will have to charge the battery as it slowly dies. Last week I charged it and went for a ride. At idle bat light would come on. Driving above 3000 rpm it would go out. I started to watch the volt reading on the display. Driving it would stay around 12.5 to 12.8. Idle would drop to 12 or lower. I took the bat out and put it on charge. Put it back in today started and it idle at 13 higher rpm 13.7 to 13.9. Should I have the regulator and stator tested or do you think it was a bad connection. Or a connection that loosens over time. Thanks for the help.

Ok bit of an update here, my bike was making a clacking noise when it was cold that just didn't seem right, and it seemed to be coming from the stator area. I took it in for its 600 mile service and asked them to see what was up with the noise. Well they opened up the stator cover and the rotor nut was almost totally loose. They torqued it down and I finally just got my bike back today.

I had to do some sitting in traffic to get home and I was watching the voltage the whole way home. Well in traffic it would go all the way down to like 12, and sometimes the battery light would come on. The highest it would go was like 12.8-12.9, and the only time it was above 13 was when it was cold leaving the dealership. I really hope my stator isn't on it's way out, the bike only has 1k miles on it ffs.

From what I've seen at 1k.miles is when they like to die, someone posted something about replacing the regulator to fix it, I'll see if I can find it

Well they still have the rotor mod, I guess I could get a rewind and the rotor mod?

Does anyone know if you have a rewind done if it needs to be just the stator or the rotor also? I'm an electrical moron.

My dad is an MMI graduate

How old are you? Your dad must have been in one of the first graduating classes. UTI has been around since 65. Not to sure on the MMI inception date. Sorry to hear about the common stator problem and the small thread jack....

I know 2 guys who just bought the rotor from EBR to swap out about a month or 2 ago. neither have had issues, but it is supposed to fix the high output problem. As long as your stator is good when you put the rotor in, you shouldnt have the issue anymore... however if your stator is on its last leg, could be a different story.

My dad graduated MMI in 2006 as a career change, I'm 20 lol

I wanted to post and clarify the problem I was having in case somebody else runs into the same issue. long story short I tested the stator and it tested has bad not producing appropriate voltage and resistance was off. however come to find out it was not the stator the stator was fine it was the stator sub harness relay. 8 dollar part caused the same issues as a bad stator

My first stator crapped out on my 09CR beginning of last summer. Beginning of this summer I started getting very low voltage readings when the bike was hot. Follow all of the steps for checking the charging system in the service manual. Turns out it was the rotor this time. I did the EBR swap and everything has been fine since then. I believe the rotor is the main root of the problem with the entire charging system. I anyone has not swapped it out I would recommend doing it. It may save you a long push down the side of an interstate.;)

I have a question, and the only reason I ask is because I have seen a lot of people doing it. Do you have to change the VR when your stator takes a dump? I wonder if they are changing them out preemptively or does the stator normally take them out along with it? Thanks, I am trying to make my stator disaster as inexpensive as possible.
