looking to install a gps to my 09 12r, Im sure I can figure out some kind of mount butt not sure where to hardwire it into, I been reading that there is a plug for heated grips somewhere in the fairing, is this in the service manual? does anyone have any pictures or instructions they can post? don't want to run it to the battery, want it to only be hot when the key is on, let me know if anyone has done this, you guys have been great with all your help on my new bike!

08 and up ulysses usually has wiring harness provision for heated grips and provision behind front fly screen. never seen same on a firebolt but that's not to say it doesn't exist. heated grips typically draw max of 3.5 amps or approx. 40 watts. your gps should draw considerably less. i have wired probably 25 sets of heated grips into the headlight harness wiring thru the years and works like a champ. no fuse or other issues to speak of. suggestion is to wire your add-on accessory plug into your headlight harness. should see orange/yellow/white/black wires on plug. the orange is switched positive...the black is ground. wire plug accordingly. the orange being switched is what you want.

I ordered a wiring harness from a newer Buell that came prewired with the accessory plug. I removed everything else, from the wiring so all I was left with was the additional wiring that needed to be added into my bike (mine is a '03). Ran it into the fuse panels just as it was done on the newer bikes - no cutting or splicing at all.

When I went to install the power outlet for GPS, the headlight module didn't have enough room for the factory HD socket to fit, so I ordered the low profile socket from Powerlet. I used the socket from Powerlet and the plug from the HD socket so that it would plug and play. I'm not sure how much room you have for a plug in a Firebolt, but if you do want to go with the Powerlet plug there are pros and cons.

Pro
Better connection for handling vibration
Watterproof
Con
Limited on charger options
