2009 xb12scg lightning. question about poor running motor.

I bought a used 2009 xb12 lightning. When I bought it, it only had 1200 miles on it and it still only has about 2000 miles on it now. I noticed when I bought it that when the bike is in neutral and I rev it, it will pop and backfire sometimes. So I took it to a Buell dealer and they said they remapped the fuel injection and fuel to air ratio. But it is still doing the same thing. It usually only does it when it is in neutral or with the clutch pulled in. One of the guys at the dealership told me it was normal. Can any of you guys provide me with some enlightenment? Is this normal? Does any one else's lightning do this?

I'm guessing it's completely stock. Might try changing the spark plugs to some good NGK Iridiums and doing the Breather Re-route Mod.

It sounds like you have an exhaust leak. What's probably happening is air is going into the exhaust. The previous owner may have put a custom pipe on it at one point. I would check for leaks

problem fixed. got rid of it for a 2009 suzuki gsx. still love the buells, just not the one that i bought, it was a real rat. 3 times in the shop and no success.

That is sad. Oh well, too bad for him, but I am having a similar problem with my bike, which is the same as his. Compared side by side with my 05, the 09 revs a lot slowers and pops like crazy on decel with my Jardine. The 05 has the Buell Race exhaust and ECM on it.

I just did the breather re-route mod and that didn't help much. Would doing another TPS reset help any?

I have the same issue with my 09. After a breather reroute and multiple TPS resets it's still a problem.

I've heard that there's an ECM flash for newer bikes that changes the fan routine, and possibly some other issues. Details on it are thin though. I need to call my dealer and try to get the scoop.

Needs a remap. The ECM can compensate only so far.
