Recently my CEL light has come on and I used the jumper method to pull the code(s). I got 5 quick flashes followed by 3 long single flashes, which I assume is 53. How can I have an ECM failure when Bruiser isn't missing a beat? I have absolutely no issues what so ever.
Is there a way to clear the code without ECM spy? Will disconnecting the battery for awhile clear it?
Thanks in advance for the help guys!

I don't think ecm spy will clear a stored code and disconnecting the battery will not either. The only way is to get the bike through 50 startups and if the condition that caused the fault is gone the code will go away.

Hi Cosworth, I don't quite follow. Can you elaborate?

One of the questions the op asked was can you clear a cel by disconnecting the battery or a option in ecm spy. To my knowledge ecm spy cannot reset a cel code. And I know just disconnecting the battery won't reset the trouble code. But after 50 run cycles the cel will reset if the trouble condition that triggered the cel in the first place has been fixed.

On ibdII cars you can reset the code with a code reader at anytime.

I just don't understand how I can have an ECM failure without any ill effects? I have gone through all the easy connectors and found nothing amiss so far. It would be nice if I had a clue what would cause the error but not effect the performance of the bike. Looks like I will be tearing him down this weekend to see if maybe something worked loose. I did rotate the motor this past winter to replace a broken exhaust stud.

All versions of ECMSpy - the older ECMSpy, and ECMSpy for Mono (registered or not) - and Tunerpro are all capable of clearing the trouble codes on any year Buell, even 2008-2010.

I attempted to answer that question in this post. See my comments on 04 Jun 2014 16:25 !

Thanks ReadyXB, I can actually wrap my brain around that answer in your previous post. I'm definitely leaning toward the boot up as it comes on immediately when the kill switch is flipped to the on position and never goes out until you hit the kill switch. I've started the search for a used one and will have it replaced before I head out on any long adventures. Thanks to everyone who answered, I may have to join the technological age and purchase ECM spy and a cable in the near future, especially since I plan on adding another Buell to the stable soon.

Anyone has a used ECM for an 09 XB12Ss laying around before I see how far Harley wants to bend me over? ASB doesn't have any listed and all Buellsterparts have in stock are for 9's and 1125's.

Schwachsinn. TC werden immer langsam blinkend angezeigt. Vermutlich ist es 21 = AMC stuck open, ein Standardfehler.

Thank goodness for Bing translator. I was asking the question ich, no need to tell me I'm full of shit???
