Hi all,

2009 XB12ss 8 pot caliper type.

My front pads are down to probably 3mm. Original pads cost Ā£119 šŸ˜² I've been quoted EBC replacement pads Ā£45. My question is are the original Buell pads better, worse or the same as EBC brand?

I'm from the UK so not everything in USA is available over here.

hey there: what kona said on pads. EBC HH are wonderful. i ship to the UK everyday from southern Pennsylvania so send me an email at below address if you want me to fire you over a set. i keep EBC products in stock. paypal required to do the transaction. regards, john

How does EBC HH compare to EBC Extreme?

Considering Harley sell stock pads for Ā£119, surely they must be better than standard type pads on the market considering their cost? I'm not fixated on stock pads, just want the best and not to be disappointed in other brands. My stock pads have lasted over 10K miles if thats anything to go by?

paul: check your email. i sent you one this afternoon. the ebc HH pads cost you $50 per set and they are for the ztl2 front caliper like on your 2009. two sets is $100 and USPS priority freight to the UK is $25. check your mail. regards, john

Thanks lunaticfringe, not that I'm arguing with your prices but with the cost of carriage (to be expected) your price is over what I can get them for here - around Ā£50 for both front sets. I'm on a shoestring budget at the moment so will get the cheaper ones. Thanks for your offer though.

PS; you didn't answer my questions about the EBC Extreme pads? Do you not sell them?

Are the non genuine pads like EBC harder on the rotors ? I once put a more aggressive pads in my old GPz 750 and apart from it not stopping as strongly unless really hot the pads rooted my rotors . Had to replace 2 front rotors and went back to kwaka pads .

I have a dilemma! I eventually found an EBC outlet that sell sintered pads for my Buell. I ordered the following but have been told they are out of stock...

FA454/4HH - EBC Sintered Motorcycle Brake Pads
Europe's first and only ECE R90 approved pad. EBC Double-H pads are the grippiest street legal brake pads you can buy. These pads benefit from the highest friction HH rating for maximum stopping power, made from sintered copper alloy like original pads for longer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They have told me they can sell me the higher performance pads which are street legal race pads instead which are at the EBC warehouse down the road...

EPFA454/4HH - EBC Motorcycle Brake Pads
Boasting the highest friction rating possible at a huge 0.6 the new sintered blend includes Molybdenum metal and tungsten additives to enhance lifetime and performance with other friction enhancing . Gone are all the nasty additives like LEAD and cheap and nasty stuff like iron or steel elements that cause rotor stiction and outline etching of bikes when parked in moist atmosphere.

Super fast bed in, friction builds to the 0.6 rating after 10-15 stops in race use. Perfect stability over our 300 stop Daytona rig test.Extremely low in stop variation.Great heat cycling ability

What do people recommend please? i don't even know if the stock pads are sintered or not?

BNIB sets from, St. Paul HD I think, for $45. I grabbed 5 sets from them... amazon has the Shit brand for $20 I think lol

where in southern PA?

Reason I didn't buy from lunaticfringe was time and import costs. Postal service charge Ā£11 fixed fee for handling + what ever the tax duty is. If I lived in USA it would have been different.

I'm getting the higher performance pads early next week I've been told. I'll be interested to see how they perform.

Lunatic I'm gonna need a set of pads for the same bike. I'm in Ohio. What else do you sell?

doug: i keep all balls bearing sets in stock for buell wheel hubs all years...steering head bearing rebuild kits...ebc brake pads for all years...some cables....sidestand pins and clevis clips....comfort kits....filters....some new H-D part #'s. just your basic perishables that are popular. send me mail and i'll fix you up if i can. regards, john

About how long do pads generally last? I have the ZTL2 on the front with 7500 miles.

About how long do pads generally last?
totally dependent on riding habits my friend. i've seen cycle disc pads go beyond 40,000 miles at the hands of tender riders. and i've seen ham-fisted maniacs destroy a set in 1/10th that amount of mileage.

Got the pads but was surprised how little pad is on each one? I'm sure the genuine pads had another few mm per pad more than these EBC ones? I could be wrong but they do seem low? I removed my original pads and had a look. They have worn at a slight angle. But the deepest part of the original pad was about half that of the EBC pads and the thinnest part of the pad was about a mm or two less.

I'm thinking of selling my Buell now (after a test ride of the KTM 1290) so have put the original pads back in for now.
