Hey,
I'm going this weekend to look at and hopefully buy a 2009 xb9sx. Low miles and I think a pretty good deal, 3400 dollars. Anyway, what is the fuel mileage on these bikes? I read somewhere where pre 08 bikes got better mileage, is this true?
I will be putting exhaust on the bike and intake, ive never messed with FI before (only carbs). Is there a cheap way to do it? Someone told me that the newer buells ecm will auto-adjust on their own but no idea.

now THAT is a steal. i want it if you pass on it.
i've owned or presently have every year XB from 03-09 and found no MPG difference between any of them...or between a 984 and a 1203 model. i consistently average 52-56mpg, have gotten as high as 60mpg, never under 48mpg. but then again i'm a bit of a geezer and ride conservatively. and yes on the "self-adjust".....to a certain degree. and the city cross you're looking at is a great model to own. install bikemaster heated grips and with the factory hand guards they're very comfy bikes.

Smokin deal. I have an 09 cherry bomb 9SX and love it like one of my children. I paid 3900 with 10k miles on it. Best I've gotten is around 120 miles on it without wanting to push the fuel light on it. Most of the time I fill up right around 100 miles just to be safe. I'd rather keep the fuel pump from possibly getting starved or having to work too hard.

so far I've gone from a Jardine pipe to a buell race pipe and with nothing more than a quick tps reset the bike has performed and adapted flawlessly. If its in good shape, I wouldn't second guess it. Any pics? Mileage?

Less than 5000 miles, pretty much stock. Hero blue wheels and air filter cover...though part of it the air cover as been painted black :/ probably will change that. Love the all black and blue wheels.

Only issue im having is finding a way to get it. No truck or trailer and its 160 miles away. Might have to rent a truck.

I went and got the bike today in a 16 foot penske truck. Anyway, test road the bike and everything was good. Previous owner said it had been laid over last week standing still, soft fall. 4600 miles. So for 3400 I took it.

Anyway, I get it home and loosen the straps as it has to sit till morning to unload and noticed the oil pressure light was on. Well that sucks but oh well. I did aome research and read it comes on after thr bike tips over.

Someeone said just take off the oil filter but i figured this would let all the oil spill out. Tomorrow i will check the oil level first. i will be doing a oil change no matter what. Any advice?t.

I recently had that happen and it was nothing more than a faulty switch. Its right next to the oil filter. If you know anyone with a pressure gauge its really easy to check and these bikes run on fairly low pressure.

Oil pressure per service manual I have says, engine oil temp 180 F.

At 3000 RPM 20-28 psi
At idle (1050-1150 RPM) 10-16 psi

oh, and congrats on the new bike! [up]

Bummer i don't have a oil pressure gauge. I wasnt sure if there was some connection that could have gotten loose.

I'm excited to get it. Def need to get the scg seat though somehow.

People are selling them all the time on here, on eBay, and check your local HD/buell friendly dealer. Someone is usually looking to trade for a skyline seat as well.... I tried one, hoping for a better footing at stoplights, but the seat is like sitting on a root canal. I recommend trying one out before you purchase.

New oil pressure switch is less than 12 bucks from HD and takes all of 3 minutes to put in. Try picking one up and doing a quick swap. See if that fixes the problem.

Thanks guys. ill post some pictures later. the bike was very low on oil so i added some. Does the oil light always come on when first turning the key on? The second i started the bike it went off.

The light uasually comes on when starting the bike and turns off once running. Sounds like you are back to normal.

How did you check the oil? On kickstand or someone holding it upright? Hot or cold?

these are great questions I should have thought of. I was assuming the basics were already checked.

Checked oil upright since it was in a wheel chock. It was well below the low mark and pretty dark.

I did check it cold since i was nervous about turning it on with low oil and ruining the engine. Its safely in my garage and a full fluid change will happen now.

FYI always check oil on kickstand and at operating temperature. I bet your oil is overfilled now.

The oil light comes on with key because there is no oil pressure with the key on bike not running.
