I recently picked up an XB12Ss with just under 25k miles on the dial. The previous owner took great care of the bike.

Since the bike is new to me, and I wanna make sure I get on a reliable bike that's gonna last me a while longer, I wanna take it to the dealership for an inspection and parts overhaul.

What should I expect at 25k- for parts and such. I just don't want the dealership taking me for a ride when this is something I could possibly look at myself.

the variables in your equation are nearly as endless as my girlfriends' mood swings. if the PO took great care of the bike as you claim then the hard parts such as the clutch pack/drive belt/primary chain/steering head bearings/lever pivots/engine and trans internals etc. should have plenty of service life left in them. you didn't post the year of your SS but let's assume it's an 06 and now 8 years old. if that's the case i would have your mechanic lube all 3 cables, check F&R wheel bearings and if OEM replace them, adjust all cables, change all fluids including F&R brake systems, adjust clutch pack and primary chain, check F&R rocker box covers for signs of leakage, tighten all exhaust fasteners, check belt idler pulley bearings, clean and check all fasteners/grounds/battery terminals under the seat, examine all perishables for wear and possible replacement....in essence just give the bike a thorough look-see and going over. a mechanic well-versed in Buells will know what to look for and what to check. one additional item that is always over-looked is the ignition switch: if the PO was one of those dorks that had 14 keys and a Leatherman tool attached to his Buell key-ring then plan on replacing the switch assembly. you'll know by the cosmetic appearance of the shroud.

I purchased my 2006 Buell XB12SCG with 24,000mi and no issues. The bike was extremely pampered, the only thing I noted that had a slight leak was the pcv valve and groment at the rear cylinder which was recently replaced for approx. 40$ in parts. Aside from this check the regular maintenance schedule, doesn't make sense to overhaul the entire bike if all is good. Do you have documentation on the routine maintenance cycles?

I don't have any documentation on anything.
The bike is an '06, and I'm not too mechanically inclined. I'm more a rider at the moment than I am a repairman (although I'll build some skill along the way).
I guess overhaul was the wrong choice of words. I just wanna make sure there aren't things beneath the surface I should be looking for.

Lunatic gave you a great checklist there. If you've got no service history however, and you'd like the piece-of-mind that you're on a reliable bike, I'd add several more items:
- load-test battery & replace as required (XBs are especially hard on batteries due to the vibes, heat, & amp-draw)
- change final drive belt
- check stator resistance for indication it needs replacement
- check voltage regulator output & budget for replacement (VRs are practically a consumable on XBs)
- check fan operation by shorting with a jumper
- replace plugs & air filter

Enjoy :D

haha, true!
I keep all my bike & car keys on the same chain, but each with a quick disconnect so that I never have anything but the key itself weighing on the ignition.

Definitely something I'll note. Buell claimed that the belts would last as long as the bike. I know from reading into the forums, that's not the case. About how many miles is a new drive belt gonna take you before you should worry?

I would also add getting ecmspy and a cable and doing a tps reset. Also to make sure there's no funky maps or timing tables on there. Make sure your comfortable with it first but its really easy to do. Either way its a good investment to get especially if your gonna start changing exhaust or filters. I also have an 06 xb12ss and my belt lasted me about 25 thousand miles before the teeth started coming off the tracks.

As everyone stated, without prior documentation have a reputable mechanic run threw the basic 25k service, with the additional tests of the fan, battery, brakes, bearings, filter, plugs etc.
