Just needing to vent some frustrations with a few Buells I've got in at Pink Gorilla. I have 3 buells, well 4 actually, with issues. The uly I had with an oil leak and no neutral light sold as it was. Buyer was aware of issues.

I now have three Buells that are giving me a headache.

1. 07 XB12STT. Starts and idles great. Runs fine up to 4.5k rpm then spits, sputters, and backfires. Already tried plugs, wires, coil, intake seals, and tps reset. Still has the same issue. I have a buyer (friend) interested in this bike pending a fix. I guess on my test ride I didn't get the rpms up high enough to catch this. My friend experienced it on his ride home.

2. 08 1125r. Don't even know where to begin with this one. Can't get it to crank over on a fully charged battery. The battery seems to drain quickly sitting there. I've had it running a couple times by jumping it, but the engine had a loud knock. Thought it was a rotor nut loose, but that was not it. I think I'll have to part this one out to limit my losses. Auction sort of screwed me on the condition report.

3. My personal 09 1125r. Stator burned up... As a poor coincidence, I loaned my 1125 to my friend who returned the STT to me to fix and the stator left him stranded.

keep working on the stt

confurm the stator is good on the 08 1125 and put it in the 09. then part the 08

On the STT, does it "back fire" through the intake, or after fire out the exhaust.? Usually a backfire through the intake is a lean indication, put a fuel pressure gage on that thing and see where it's at while riding and under load. Best of luck,

AngryGnome- Need to geet 4k for the 1125r. It has 3k on the odo. I'm in Austin, TX. www.pinkgorillacycles.com

On the STT, run a compression check. I am having the same problem with my 07 STT. It will run GREAT until it gets to closed loop (warm). I ran a compression check by the book, and it is either a bad head gasket or valves on mine. Hopefully better luck with yours.

Finally found the issue with the STT. Luckily I have a Uly I could borrow parts to check. I swapped the crank position sensor. Initially, I just loosely plugged it in and set the static timing. Blammo! Bike ran great. So I buttoned it all up and fired up the bike again. Problem was back. So I pull the wires out and let them hang as they were before when it ran well. Again the bike ran perfect. Shut the bike off and looked at the wires. For some strange reason when I was inspecting the wires the fan would come on and off.

I'm certian I found the spot in the wiring harness where there is an open wire. What a relief!

XL_cheese, open wire problems in a harness are always a bitch to find, Wiring is bad enough when its something obvious but the ones that hide are a mass PITA. Glad you found it
