3K or + RPM & Half throttle pings

Well I noticed since adding the engine ground wire that between 2K & 3K rpms that the engine runs great and does not ping anymore in this rpm range. Now I notice a ping at 3K rpms and higher when at half throttle. Does not appear to lose any power or ping below or above half throttle. The bike otherwise has no issues? Is this normal?

No, are you sure you dont have exhaust leak? Just asking.

Not an obvious one, There is a crack in the muffler just behind the pulley. Looks like a modified muffler as there is a crack in the weld there and a slight leak. I do have the stock muffler, maybe I should swap them out to see if there is a difference.

Intake gaskets maybe leaking.

Everyone's detention of pinging is different... And you want to narrow down where it is coming from...
Is it coming from the heads? That would could be bad fuel, timing burnt valve, bent pushrods, bad cam sensor.
Is it more a rattle? It could be, broken exhaust studs, broken muffler, broken header....spray soapy water on the header and muffler while the bike is running to track it down.

Hello squidbuellie,

Yes you are right, the sound I am hearing is more like a diesle sound. I do believe it is the muffler causing it. I have an extra stock muffler, packed up now since I have sold my house. When we find a new place is when I will be able to unpack and install it.
