I'm thinking of ordering HID lights from DDM Tuning. They warn that 55w lamps might cause heat damage to smaller light housings. Anyone use 55w HIDs? Are they too hot for a Firebolt in the long run?

Yes there hot. But Dave brought up that a 55w halogen is gonna burn even hotter than an HID.

Given that ive bought the 55w kit in 4500k, and im experiencing clear coat heat bubbles. If ypur bike is factory color i wouudnt worry about it. Even if its painted plastics, not that big of a deal..there just tiny bubbles.

Crazy Texan pictures? And does any one have any insight on using a delay to turn them on? I remember reading you should let them warm up. How long? I let my gauges go through there flickering and what not and once the engine light is out i start my bike is this long enough?

Wow. Fast responses.

I have factory white plastics on my 9. White plastics are a bit rare, yes? Maybe I should think about protecting them. 03 '9, white body, hero blue wheels. I'll get a blue windshield eventually.

HID lamps don't like rapid ignitions. So when you turn the key on the lamps light up. Go to start it and the lamps turn off for a moment and then back on. A on delay timer would prevent the rapid double ignition and lengthen the light of the lamps.

For the warm up, HIDs need time to get up to full brightness. Let the bike idle for a minute or two and you should be fine.

I put halos as my running lights and a manual switch on mine, my wife says she can see me from about 3/4 miles away, and that is with 35W HIDs. I'd be scared of the 55W's

No pics, But i'll get some, But like i said, I dont have factory plastic color. mine is painted.

Delay or aux power switch, to each their own. Like oh9bolt said, No problems in 2 years, My little brother does not have a delay either, his is still fine, I Did however install a separate power switch for mine....Because I wanted to choose when to turn them on.

Which halos?

And does anyone with HIDs live near Chicago so I could see some in person? I'm in the southwest burbs.

Hey I just ordered duel 55 should be here in a week so if your not in a huge hurry I can show you when I get them in

The way I understand it is 35w is good, but if you use 55w for standard not high beam Its way to bright. As word goes. If anyone has been there, when your driving at night, and some one comes around the bend with excessively bright lights. You want to track them down and punch them, like 5 times in the face. If anyone has heard or seen or just plain knows what the deal is please state. It is cool having variation in light color.
I was wondering about inverter should it be completely sealed up, with high voltage like they were saying 20k volts, amps ? Didn't know if it comes in contact with a little moisture, you don't want your bulbs to blow in the housing. Pain in the a$$ to shake the glass out.

Oh yeah I had mine in for almost 10k miles no problems, I have a low beam diffuser in the high beam so I have 2 low beams.

I have read the DDM HID's are fully potted (ie: sealed) so moisture should not be a problem. The delay relays can be used in place of the standard relay and they are about 15 bucks each, so no major expense there. Those who have the 35 watt kits have reported they are very bright. Most will recommend the slim digital ballasts due to size limitations.

Yea don't worry about heat I've got 55w in my bolt, and have had tem over a year now without any problems, a delay timer or delay relay is a nice thing to add to it!

I figure if I go with the HID kit I'll do the delay relay. They are only 15 bucks and I would plan on using a standard 30 amp relay anyway so why not just get the one with the delay. I just checked DDM's site and their HID kit is only 25 dollars with the slim ballast (one headlight)
