6 speed / one-tooth up?

So far the only complaint I have about the bike is highway cruising. Considering I bought the bike primarily for commuting (135 mile round-trip), it sees a lot of highway miles. So my question(s):

Does anyone know of or ever heard anything about possible 6-speed conversions for these bikes? I imagine if it is possible it's probably expensive and may be over kill. But just wondering.

Alternately (and probably not a very popular option), does anyone have any experience going one-tooth-UP on the rear sprocket? I know that it would probably effect acceleration and around-town riding, but with the bike's great low-end torque it might not be too horrible.

I don't think that it is damaging to the bike cruising at 80 - 85 mph or anything, just thinking it may be happier if it were not so high in the RPM's while doing so.

Any thoughts?

There isn't a 6 speed set up made yet.

If you wanted better highway speeds, you would want to step down a tooth on the rear, not up a tooth...

I doubted there were any 6-speeds, but I thought I'd ask.

Down a tooth? Hmm, sorry, guess I had it wrong. So going down a tooth on the rear will give me more head-room (rpm-wise) at higher speeds? know of anyone that has done this or have any opinion on it?

Also, got any advice on which sprocket to get?

Read the fine print. The damn thing doesn't fit XB's.............

Application: 91-03 Sportster/Buell (except XB9 & XB12)

It will work you just have to do one all important modification...the XL6 must have a trap door....XB = no trap door...

I would love a sixth gear or something that can lower the rpms at highway speed. Every two weeks I put on roughly 1300 miles. So, if anyone finds out anything. I would definately be interested.

Ok,hey BPG,going off of what FIDOSOL has said about the XL6 tranny and the trap door mod, what is the probability of making that transfer a success? More trouble than it's worth?

It allows you access to the transmission gears almost directly. The old Buell Tubers had the trap door. Keep in mind I only have a VERY basic understanding of the trap door thing...

I thought u were sposed to go a tooth up on ur front sprocket? Least thats what I had been discussing with a local tech to improve highway speeds...

Everyone has been talking about the rear sprocket here. Going smaller on the rear will achieve more top end/lower RPM on the highway. The same can be achieved with increasing the front sprocket as you have said.

Reading the entire post is golden...

Also remember, changing 1 tooth on a front sprocket has the same affect as changing 2 1/2 teeth on a rear sprocket.

do you have the chain conversion on the bike or are you talkin bout a different size pulley,i know vortex makes a chain conversion for buell's cuase i installed one.if so go with a vortex. i am very happy with the ones i have ran and they have a wide variety of sizes.they dont stand up as well as stell sprockets but if you clean and lube them thoroughly they last.and you save weight!

ugh.. Someone posted a link the other day but I cant seem to find it! Sorry... I fail at the internets
