just picked up a 99 buell x1 on the cheap. had my share of EVO 1200s, never a buell, and never one with F/I
its got around 11,000 miles on it. mostly got it to swap out the engine on my 86 sporty bobber some day down the road and to ride for now, and figured i could learn a little bit about F/I along the way.
got the bike bone stock, other than a vance and hines pipe. it ran pretty well. hated the huge air box so i switched it out for a ham can i had laying around as soon as i got it home and did a breather re-route.
now it runs like garbage, misses at every rpm, surges when cruising below 40mph does nothing but spit sputter and crackle at WOT. i haven't ridden it for very long due to the fact that it runs like crap. I read that the ECM only goes into "learning mode" when cruising at a constant 3,000 or so RPM after the bike reaches operating temp. I haven't really given it a chance to do that yet because i'm afraid it wouldn't make it that long with the way its running.
already downloaded an ECMspy torrent, and bought a cable off the internet, wont get here for a few days
so i guess my question is... does it require extensive tuning to bolt on something as poorly flowing as a ham can?
should i just take it out and cruise and the ECM will right itself after it goes into learning mode? or, should i wait for my cable to get here and pretend i know what i'm doing with ECM spy?
any advice appreciated.
