A clunk, and then bad vibration - help

I was enjoying my ride home, and the road was clear, and I opened it up almost all the way in 2nd. Buells are fun because they have so much torque and I was going to enjoy it... when there was some kind of soft "clunk", and then the engine started vibrating abnormally. The vibration started around 1500 rpm. It felt like something was quite wrong. I was able to "drift" the motorcycle home, keeping the RPM just above idle (going very slowly), but I was worried I was doing some kind of damage.

I'm going to have it towed to the shop.

Anyone have any ideas what might have happened?

Check your motor mounts, particularly the front mount/bolts.

^^^^^ this plus front drive belt pulley......idler pulley.....front and rear primary drive sprocket nuts. the rear on primary is left hand threads.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, my immediate thought was, "is that what it feels like when a motor mount goes kaput?"
