So i finally got my Buell XB12R
my Buell XB12R i initially started talking about in THIS thread.

She needs new tires,.. ill prob order them from eBay or somewhere online today. Couldn't believe there like 1/2 the prince online as what the dealer wanted to charge me.
Any thoughts on what a poor guy now that i spent 4K on the bike should get as far as tires? :D

I'll also be going through everything in the manual since this is the first bike ive ever owned.

Now before i bought it, since even though im very mechanically inclined BUT i know nothing about bikes, i had a Harley/Buell dealership inspect it and ride it for an hour. They told me that mechanically its a real nice bike but has a few little bugs.

1, after you start the bike it idles for a bit then shuts off. It sat for 6 months so the tech said it might just be bad gas.

2, the after market rear LED blinkers the previous owner installed blink too fast, like a bulb is burned out fast,.. the tech said they needed some kind of resistor or something since the bike sends more juice down those lines then the LED's need i guess. Anyone know what part hes talking about and where you would install it?

3, there's a wire disconnected under the seat, maybe it has to do with the LED's, ill take some pics and get them up later.

4, when you going down the road in gear and pull the clutch in the Neutral light comes on,.. just while the clutch is in. Any idea why?

Let me know what you think!

if you are on a real tight budget shinkos are cheap, I have them right now on my m2 they are not bad but they are not great either.

There has been a lot of sells lately on pilot power 2 tires with the dual compound for a round 220 or so. Those are good sporty tires.

Tire opinions are really going to be like butt holes though every one will have a different one.

Nice looking bike man, congrats.

I'm guessing the plug under the seat is for the active exhaust valve box. If your exhaust is aftermarket, or a mod'd stock pipe people take the control box out.

If you pull the plastic off you'll see the airbox. On top of the airbox is where the control box would sit, if it's not there, that's what the wire went to.

As far as the LED's you definitly need the resistor. NOt sure which model though. AmericanSportbikes.com sells them.

Forget ASB. They overcharge for the relay.

What you need is an ep-36. Almost any auto parts store should have it, and it should cost about 12 bucks. They are frequently labeled as LED-specific flasher relays. All you need to do is remove the stock relay, and replace it with the new one. Easy peasy.

1. Probably bad gas. If the bike runs just like normally and then shuts of, then i doubt that option.

2. Correct. You need resistors between blinker wires. Or new relay like octopus said.

3. Is the color of the wire white and disconnected from ECM connector? If so, thats "white wire mod"

4. It's normal in some of the yearmodels. There is a switch behind clutch lever to notice if clutch is "on"..

Hope these helps and correct me if im wrong :)

I was just at the Hardly Davidson dealership, I picked up some synthetic oil and a filter, they tried to sell me a "load equalizer" for the blinker problem (and now that I think about it that is exactly what the tech said most people forget to put in when they install LED lights) but for $75... A LED-specific flasher relay - ep-36 for $12 sounds like a much nicer buy so thanks ill look into that :)

Ok so I took the seat off and I found the wires the technician was talking about. Pic below...

That orange triangular plug was just sitting there not connected to anything,.. and the black wire that looks like it should be grounded is also not connected to anything. Ironically that orange plug is the exact same shape and totally looks like it should plug into the plug where the black wire leads,.. in the picture I identified with a green arrow.

What do you think? What are these wires for?

thats the ones I have on my m2. Like I said they are decent for the price but not great. They are good in the fact that they get good milage. Mine have about 5k or so and could go another 5k or more on them.

Holy ****! $168.91 for 2 and the dealer wanted $250 for just 1, lol

Since im a new rider who doesn't know any better i do think ill be getting these, from the reviews they sound well worth the money.

Thanks man!!!!

...and i totally just signed up for AMA, i mean im going to make most of the $39 bucks back on just the two tires i buy!... need a helmet too, i might get that on bikebandit.com too if im getting 10% off :p

Hey octopus,.. or anyone who knows. Is this the right part to make the blinkers flash right? I got it at Autozone, they said its the same as an EP-36.

Now where/how do i hook it up? lol

I say pilot roads.... If your no hitting the track on a regular basis I think the roads are better bang for your buck

"when you going down the road in gear and pull the clutch in the Neutral light comes on,.. just while the clutch is in. Any idea why? "

Have a look at the fuses - one of them is a diode (has a marking similar to this -|<-). The function of this is to allow the clutch switch to supply a ground for the starter relay without lighting the neutral switch. If this diode is reversed the neutral light will come on when you pull the clutch in.

So locate this diode and reverse it - your neutral light issue should go away and as a bonus you can start the engine in gear with the clutch pulled in (I'll wager you can't right now).

i believe that plug was for the exhaust servo, check the airbox cover for the servo motor. if gone assume they disabled the c.e.l. warning light opps sorry to repeat.

Hey Rays,..
First off thanks for taking the time to write all that, you sound like you really know your ****. I haven't got out to the garage yet today but but FYI I can start the bike in gear with the clutch in. Could any of those wires i took a pic of under the seat have anything to do with this? I'll look for that diode though and let you all know.

kalifornia,..
got a pic of the "exhaust servo"? Id look for it but have no idea what it looks like :)
Why would someone take that out anyway?

Can anyone verify that that plug i marked with the green arrow in the pic should in fact just have that ground wire leading from it? And if so shouldn't it be grounded somewhere? Again it really looks like that orange triangular plug should plug into the plug that ground wire is coming out of but i wont plug it into it until someone can tell me for sure.

According to the Ebay link you put of your bike, it's got a D&D and an airbox delete kit - so you won't have the servo (Circled below). Edit: The servo isn't used on a D&D, only on the Stock can and a few others.
