I had to stay up most of the night last night because I work 3rd shift and didn't want to mess up my sleeping pattern. Nothing on HBO so I decided to see what I could do to improve the aesthetics of the Ss a little bit. First to go was the reflectors. Front one just pop off no problem, Back ones come off easy enough but require you to swap the turn signals. Next the lower beltguard. Got a little surprise with that one as I was expecting 2 screws and off with the plastic, well there's an aluminum sheild on the inside that was a little more difficult to wrangle out from between the belt and the tire. Still not bad though. Next to go was the passenger pegs and mounts. Last was the first non reversible mod that I've done, Cutting of the upper belt guard from the tire hugger. I looks better I think but that hugger is still just to big. And if anyone is wondering a regular S hugger will bolt on but probably not offer as much protection to the shock. Here's a couple of pics.

Looks good! It looks better (obviously my opinion only) when you take the whole tire hugger off!

I agree, but not sure how much trash will reach the shock. Might try my wifes CityX hugger when she's not lookin' to see if it works. It's tiny by comparison but still may be enough to protect the shock.

I took my hugger off totally, other than a couple minor scratches on the bottom of the shock tower I have seen no problems. But I only have a couple thousand miles on the bike since I took it off...its probably one of those things that will destroy the shock after a long time.

As someone else here said....such is life!

By the time the shock is destroyed it will be time for a replacement anyways :D As far as destroying things.....im more worried about the unseen loose gravel in the middle of a 70mph tight turn[up]

OK, you guys won! I just got done taking the hugger off. Definately looks better. The only thing I don't like is the now empty mounting tabs are painfully obvious. Gonna use the 2 on the left side to hold cable clamps for the brake line. Just dont know what to do with the ones on the right[confused].

make a side mount license plate bracket

With the 2 right side belt guard mounts? Good idea! Illegal in my state but I see it all the time on choppers so I think I'll do it when I chop of the cheesegrater[up]

Why is it illegal? So long as it is illuminated it should be ok. Find some small white L.E.D.'s and use the same wiring for the stock lamp----just extend it. Hmmmm, maybe another mod I'll try this winter. [up]

Nevermind H&H dont try it, it was a silly idea anyways :D:D:D JOKE [cool]

Actually only illegal if it's mounted sideways. I took the plate off to check out your idea and it will stick out too far for my taste unless it is mounted sideways. Hmmmm...maybe a servo to turn it proper when I see red lights behind me[up],talk about a confused cop:p.

How would you go about mounting the plate sideways? Im guessing i'd have to fab up some kinda bracket. I was thinkin about starting with some cheap sheet metal strips to get the bends right, then make it out of something a bit sturdier, paint it, and mount a light.
