1208 short stroke engine

define short stroke?? I'm using a XB crank, 3-1/8 stroke, and my spigots are bored to 4.015, that's the absolute largest the XB cases can be bored. That gives me a cylinder bore of 3-13/16 bore. Course, that's steel sleeved aluminum cylinder. That's giving me 1170cc. I guess you could run aluminum cylinders with a nikasil plating and achieve a larger bore, but really, as thin as the cases are bored at 4.015, the cylinders help provide a lot of strength. In fact, Axtell really recommends using all cast iron cylinders with that much spigot bore.

hi....................we use a lightened XB 9 crank...................around 3 Kg of weight has been stripped......standard pushrods.............JE forged dome piston (made for me).......Revolution perf. Nicasil......= 1208 cc................same bore as for my 1430 cc engine (has a XB12 crank and more volume in the heads and flat top piston).......never used Axtell..........why use a sleeved cylinder when you can have better heat transfer, bigger bore with a Nicasil cylinder.........stability is no problem.............we totally sacrificed the bolt in the case between the cylinder and this is no problem what so ever.......Lucky builds loads of engines every year and there are no issues.
The 1208 engine has been build according to my specs and with loads of additional parts made by Tom with my designs.
I am just expecting a new cylinder set to build the next generation of my 1208 engine................I will use a 2005 XB 12 case.............cams of the 2008, cam cover 2008.............crank XB9 2008 lightened with Carillos............top end and primary as like my current 1208 motor, XB RR alternator setup and Magnesium RR primary cover................lightened gearbox and ceramic bearings.................The intention is get a mechanically sound engine that avoids the crank failure issues of the older cranks and have a better oil pump...............I just checking if the 585 screaming eagle cams are available for the 2008 type engine............my 1430 goes like stink with these cams..............and the 1208 has them as well......I had a little disaster with the Rev Perf cams...........valves touched during a dyno run.........bum.........we have been able to salvage the situation....... so now only screeming eagle.................and in case they don't make them for the new type engines I will have them made myself............

1. Need pics of your gf on the buell or she doesnt exist.

2. feel free to post plenty of pictures about your engine build(s). we need to see more of that on this site.

this should also answers cooters question.....:)

There have been a few things happening since my last posting. Al from American Sportsbike is currently organising a set of 2008 XB12 cams for me......Marc Angell from Zippers will than coordinate that the cams getting their 585 grind which we have found works well for our engines (tube framers and my 1208)........Michael Richter from EBR is kindly looking for the other XB RR bits and I hope that the parts arrive within the next 2 months.

The little one will get a polished set of stock headers..........................just need to find the time to fit them....

polished_xb9_header.jpg

I had a bit of nasty surprise when I tried to fit the new headers for the 1208.......................the guy who had adjusted them for me has ignored major parts of the briefing the I had given him beforehand................now it touches the rear part of the frame...........I am pretty pissed..........we are hoping to get another guy on board soon to fix this problem. A set back but, I have become used to people promising loads of things and only taking money for **** work...............we have a say in Germany................you always meet twice........

with regards to the cover...................I don´t have any spare ones that I wanna sell.

I will try and post more stuff here......

Chris

just noted that I have forgotten to post the correction of mistake in one of my earlier postings..............I use Redshift cams from Zippers..........Screaming Eagle is wrong...... sorry about that.
