As I am trying to get all my gear (leather pants and another jacket(leather) and better boots and more gear.

and of course what this thread is somewhat about is any gear(saddle bags & tank bags and such) to put clothes and camping gear and maybe even some fishing gear for this year, and looking for good roads and places to ride along with some great places to go camping, fishing, & hiking, and how I might be able to do this by getting there on my buell with what I need.

so please post any adventures on any buell (not just the Ulys, I have a Firebolt) or road trip on a bike that would envolve camping out and maybe fishing or other outdoor activities and what you used (show a pics if you have any).. of what the camping gear and saddle bags you used and how well it fits and if you used some kind of cooler for food, or dry goods/foods.

Being a very outdoors person I love camping , fishing, hiking, hunting, and almost anything that has do do with the outdoors, and in the Spring Summer and somtimes in the fall I camp alot and fish and hunt alot .
have taken my Buell a few times camping but my family was with me so the truck is what carried all the camping gear and food. this year I want to maybe go on a few trips on the buell that I may need to camp out and/or fish too, or just may want to stop and fish if I see a good place to fish while out on a ride and want to carry some light gear and would like some suggestions on how to carry it without have it piled up ....being this will my first time doing any of this on my Buell any and all advise and info would be and will be very helpfull to me and everyone else that wants to the same.

for example I will be going on at least two bike trips this spring see here---> Oklahoma-Group-rides--Talimena-scenic-drive-ride , and may or may not being taking the truck to carry my camping gear to Talimena scenic drive to the Camp site at the Talimena State Park or the camping area on Talimena scenic drive Hwy 1 Winding Stair campground

There are now a few 8 piece fly rods being produced that you might look into. Go with a nice 4 or 5 weight and a small Ross fly reel. Since you mainly plan on doing summer trips, get a set of Orvis wading sandals and wet wade. A small selection of flies to cover a lot of water types: Prince Nymphs, Mayfly emergers / Drys, Wooly Buggers, Pheasant tails, and a few Midge patterns. Throw some nippers and forceps on a loop with some 4,5,6X tippet and you will be pretty much set for being able to fish and stuff it all in a tail bag on the bike.

I used to be a fly fishing guide in Colorado, so if ya have any questions in that regard, lemme kno.

thanks wiznut,
do you have any links to the 8 piece fly rods (& who makes some of them & how short do they get, I need to look them up) and the other fishing gear. my current fly rods and other fishing rods only break down to about 2.5ft to 3 feet and I have one(a rod & small spincast reel) that has a small hard case for it that I usually carry in my car. and I have alot flys & fishing lures, but you can never have enough and always use more. and yes I love fly fishing for trout, bass perch and anything else that will bite.
I will probably go fishing tommorrow to catch some trout, crappie, or catfish & to kill some cabin fever!!

so yes any tips or help on fly fishing would be great put it here or in the The-Great-Outdoors thread so this thread doesnt get to far off topic.

I use a 4 piece 4 weight fly rod, system one reel, double taper shooting line, orvis braided nylon leader and 7x tippet, tie my own flys. This fits in a custom 20 inch case that I attach to the grab handles on my Uly. Wisperlight makes great high power stoves and a small french press in high impact type plastic works for coffee.

Have a great year camping.

I have done a couple of overnight trips here in VA. I use a Winston Ibis 4pc 4wt. I modded my original mirror mounts and just slide the rod tube in across the bars. I can tell you that it was all I could do to get everything on the bike for one night. Of course a Uly could probably be loaded up for 3 or 4 days.

BRatigan, thanks ,
the small stove would be good, but i do most cooking over small open fire ,but a stove would be great if at somewhere a fire wasn't allowed. and I have french press travel mug for my coffee from Bodum , boil the water in small pot.

raz65man, thanks, great pics , thats helps alot especially the fishing rod case attached to the handlebars, at first I thought you had ram mounts holding it, BassPro has some ram mounts on clearance cheap basspro.com/RAM-Mounts-ATV/UTV- that i maybe to use in a simalar way that you did with your mirror mounts, I'll figure out how to get it where it does hit anything and probably slightly above my Firebolt front fairing. gotta say looks like you fit alot on your Buell Lightning. I also have been looking at a lightwieght one man tent & slepping bag like these two tents, basspro.com/Sportz-XPlorer-PAC-1Person- it comes with a sleeping bag and then this tent sportsmansguide.com guide-gear-hiker-tent or sportsmansguide.com eureka-backcountry

Native, The tent pictured is a Guide Gear 1-person bivy that I got on sale a couple years ago for $24. I have nothing but good things to say about any of the camping gear that I got from Sportsmans Guide. The bags are just Buell Ss saddle and trunk bags. Raz

dont have any pict's at this time but for the long haul get the hepco and becker 40 liter hard cases. Also if headed to the talimena make sure head north out of mena and hit highway 23 it 45 minutes of nothing but 15 and 20 mph curves under the canopy of trees.

This is a real cool route. Lots of camping around Tenkiller and Greenleaf lakes. Ignore my A and B. I started at Camp Gruber and ended there also.
