Hey guys, just looking for some tips on selling a bike to another potential rider. It's an 05 Xb9sx , 4500 miles, Kvx vin. Asking 35. Anyway my fear is the buyer pulls up in a junker then speeds away on my bike. I've picked a location that is a bit empty parking lot so hopefully it will be contained but yea. Thanks,
TB

Get the $3500 cash in hand, count it, make sure it's not counterfeit, check their driver license, take pictures of both sides with them sitting on the bike, then give them the key and let them ride it, When they get back, inspect the bike.

Just remember, it's your insurance they're ridding under.

^^This... for this reason I always state in my seller's ad that test rides will be permitted ONLY with cash and your drivers license in my hands. In addition, riders must have their motorcycle ENDORSEMENT - the full license, proving you're capable of passing the road test. "Permits" won't cut it, anyone can take the written test at the DMV. And bring your helmet - maybe I'm just biased but I don't like seeing squids out there so I don't let them ride my bikes.

As all others have said. Cash in hand, motorcycle endorsement. Any one who actually wants a bike won't have any issue with that. And if you get a bad feeling about someone once you meet in person(as some are hard to read over the phone) then just pump the brakes a bit ask them extra questions about their riding experiences etc. I've sold tons of Craigslist stuff, bikes included, and most people that aren't assholes are fairly timid about asking for a test ride or they have placed money in hand before ever asking.. good luck!
