This is in regards to a 2006 XB12X Ulysses:

My bikes intake & exhaust is stock aside from a K&N filter. It runs perfect and I'd like to keep it that way. I don't want to get all involved with ecm's, fuel maps, etc. My stock muffler is rusty & ugly.

All I want is an aftermarket muffler that looks a little better and maybe has a little bit more sound, but nothing obnoxious.

So my question is: Is there an aftermarket exhaust that is a direct bolt on unit that doesn't require any other changes to the bike?

Any ideas are welcome...

I have a stock XB, I have a K&N filter and stock intake as well. I run a Jardine slip on aluminum pipe on mine. Works perfectly fine, if u don't change the intake volume or airbox, it'll bring in the same amount of air...so the Jardine runs fine on it. Maybe it'd run a little better with a race ECM or maps but it does everything I want..and sounds awesome. Just buy a slip on and throw it on there

alien: the 06 and 07 Uly's have same ecm mapping. reason i mention this is that i have an 07 Uly and installed a Hawk muffler. agree with brian and others above that for the money, it is the best performing muffler out there. great sound, great performance and retains your stock lower chin fairing mounting brackets which was important to me. but i did find that on my 07 Uly with all else being stock including air filter element that it had low speed surging that i found incredibly irritatiing. did not affect overall performance....just very irritating to me at least. i finally "bit the bullet" and installed a race map into the stock ecm which resolved 90% of the surging. i suspect you'll find the same thing might happen to your 06.

HAWK! If you don't want to mess with mapping/tuning, send your ECM with your stock can to randy and he'll burn the map on it for you, then you're recycling your old rusty can into a fresh modified can. Recycling FTW...

Yeah i took the modified stock pipe route until i saved up enough for a race pipe. I just couldnt justify spending $250+ for something i could do myself.

ditto on hawk muffler send ecm with pipe randy will flash maps for free he gives military discount to vets if you have any questions give him a call he will answer and then some bike ran great for the month before put up for winter hibernation

Original Drummer with optional core wrap with EBR Race ECM and K&N High Flo air filter element. After ECM issues straightened out (sending my ecm back to EBR and confirming fuel mixture went lean, they fixed it) my bike is phenomenal. Zero idle surge, low rpm hesitation and surge gone and easily lifts front wheel of the ground 1st-3rd. That sound, great,,,love the parking garages and seeing how many car alarms I can set off... No more backpop on decel and much improved throttle response. Couldn't be happier...

No, not really, especially if you want it to continue to run right. There are a lot of good options out there depending on your budget, but I wouldn't really run any of them without tuning it properly to match. Sure, the bike will still run, but it will not be right.

Another thing you'll want to look at is fit/finish of the pipe. Are the welds ok, sloppy or damn near perfect?
