does anybody know if another brands gas cap will fit our bikes? my cap is very firm and I don't want to be another victim with a broken key in the cap at the gas station.

the ilmberger one from EBR is nice but at $170 I just cant swing it, there are lower cost versions for GSXR's CBR's ect. that will bolt up?

I like the vortex racing version and between 60 and 100 for the base and lid together I like the idea of it.

GrandStand Designs makes one, hate to say it since I wanted to be the only one with it that I know of, but check it out[up]

$129.00 - Available in any color since GSD does powder coating, not sure on additional price.

Can the lock be changed in the caps we have? I would like to find a black gas cap to replace my silver one...

Yup, GrandStand is the only other one I've found. @ $125 plus shipping, it's not much cheaper and it only comes in silver or black.

Thanks for the links guys

I think I'll keep looking, I had really hoped that I could match up the bolt pattern to an import, the camera mount I want requires accessible screws to mount by your gas cap. (like the ilmberger)

I'll let you know if I find an import that is the same or close (like the GSXR levers)

Not sure how I missed that.

probably because you looked on ebay where it says
Availible in two colors; Factory Silver/Grey and Gloss Black.

***Orders will not be processed without a color choice. Please note color choice in the notes section of Paypal.***

and on their website is where it says they will do any color :)[up]

Couldn't you just have it sand blasted to a raw silver finish and or paint it? Save yourself $40.

Is it the color, quick access, or uniqueness that your all after? I kind of like having the locking stock gas cap

Color is cool but my main goal is eliminating the key, my gas cap is very stiff and soon I will no longer be able to turn it without damaging my key.
I don't want to tear into my current cap and possibly destroy it in an atempt to fix it and I don't want to buy another that uses a different key.

On the gas cap issue.

Anyone know a way to get it off without a key? Besides drilling it?

Thanks X

EBR salls the ilmberger for $170 I'm trying to find a lower cost option

I figure there has to be another brand motorcycle with the same bolt pattern and external diameter on the base.
If you take off your gas cap you will see screws holding the base in many gap bikes have these same bolts normally visible with the cap still on. If the bolt pattern is the same I can buy one of the $50 race cap assembelys that fits that particular bike and be good to go.

I'm betting a flat head screwdriver and a liberal amount of force will do it, i think it's just plastic internals or you can get a jiggler and pick it.
If you are worried about bits of cap in your tank I don't think you need to drill all the way through, just into the tumblers, not sure if the shavings will stay put though.

try the air trick,do you or someone you know have AAA insuance they pay for the locksmith, you dont need to drill all the way through about 3/4 of an inch will do,if you have a mechanic friend get a slide hammer with a screw holder thread the screw into the key opening one hard pull on the slide weight an it will come out,pay a lock smith.
