I just moved to texas and there are state inspections here and tgey test emmisions here. I need a new/used exhaust because the stock pipe had been hacked up before I got the bike. Is there an aftermarket pipe thatll pass inspection? I want to get one of D Adams but im pretty sure it says it wont pass. Any ideas?

unless i'm missing something here in your post regarding TX emissions testing, the stock v. aftermarket muffler has no effect on an emissions sniff test. if your bike is in good running order with O2 sensor/sensors in place and no CEL light on, it should pass emissions. on the other hand if TX testing includes visual inspection of the entire exhaust and disallows an aftermarket muffler then you'd have to stick with a stock muffler. anybody here from TX with experience regarding this??????????

I dont know how Texas works, but up here outside of Washington DC bikes are exempt from emissions testing.

Mine are tagged as race use only, but have passed every time here in MO. I think CA is even worse for inspection testing than TX is and I've sent several (15+) out that way over the last few years. If it's really emissions, then as long as it's well tuned you should be fine. They'd be looking for HC, CO2 and NOx from what I remember from school. A 4 or 5 gas analyzer with the bike on a dyno would be needed to really dial it in if you're worried about it.

They don't check bikes in Cali for emissions. But noise is a different story with the popo

I thought that Cali had certain restrictions on their bikes? My old was a California compliant model so i had a charcoal canister and everything on it. Why the heck would you need that if they dont run emissions tests?

To the OP-

You might want to check the requirements again where you live. I'm in TX just north of Austin. There is emissions test for motorcycles where I live, or sound level checks. I stand right there while the inspection is done every year and the only things they check are basic safety items (lights, brakes, horn, etc.). There is a sniff test in TX for cars and trucks, but that depends on the county where you are registered.

I suspect you are worrying about nothing. Install your favorite exhaust, tune it up and ride.

All sounds good. I do have to get an inspection sticker but I wasnt sure about the emmissions testing. Thanks all for the info. Mr. Adams ill hopefully be getting one of your systems soon. As soon as paint is finished.

As far as tuning, I have theECMspy program but I have nonclue how to "tune" the bike. Ill save this for some searching or another post.

We can get you set up with a fully custom tune and/or an education on how to tune your bike yourself. Check us out: The Tuniversity. Well reviewed on a variety of Buell resources, and I'm confident we can get you up and running in no time, regardless of previous experience.

Tork is correct, I'm in Austin as well and you can go to a Jiffy Lube and they're ensure everything is in working order that is it.
