A lot of people like their air box cover but don't like their trim ring or vice versa. I just wanted to let everyone know if you separate them, they are interchangeable between XB's and the 1125's, all years and models.
The air boxes and trim rings are not sold separately. The plastic tabs holding the trim ring in place are melted at the factory to hold them in.
But, if you scrape off the melted plastic fusing the 2 together. The two pieces can be separated. Your trim ring can then be used on any other air box cover you've done the same thing to. The 2 front air box cover mounting screws along with the remainder of each post will sufficiently hold the trim ring in place while you are riding.
I started doing this to keep from masking off the trim ring every time I paint a cover. I use this technique on all of my air box covers. Over the last couple of years, it has worked beautifully. I hope the information helps.
