air box delete

why would you have to re route the breather hoses. they only come up inside the filter. if you have an air box lid cover over only the filter, it shouldnt matter right?

im trying to do this airbox delete by cutting the filter cover off the airbox lid. i dont see a need to re route the hoses when essentially there is no difference in the airbox but more air flow

Its not the factor of air flow when you re-route the breather houses to outside of the airbox. You are taking the crankcase vapors out of the induction and venting them to the air outside. It helps with throttle response and those hiccups some people get while taking off from a stoplight when the engine is warm.

found it, thanks. i finished my airbox delete, it had a lil hard time starting, probably cause its cold. but i just gave it a lil gas and it worked fine. a little rough at idle till it warmed up

is there anything i should do after installing the airbox delete, maybe get the bike tuned? i guess im asking if it was the cold that caused the rough idle or the airbox delete.

Just take it out on a ride where you can hold it between 3500-4500 rpm for 5 mins. That will reset the learned map in the ECM and it will set to the airbox mod you just did. You still might want to consider having the TPS reset though. Not a bad idea.

what about the colored plastic cover, the one that goes over the airbox lid. if i have the old one, without the holes near the gas cap, do i have to change it to perform this mod?

No, not at all. The older bikes still have the intake duct through the frame, whereas the newer bikes dont have that and they have the hole in the front of the airbox by the gas filler neck. If you really wanted to, you could update the colored airbox cover to the newer design to have the hole in the front. It will bolt on to the older bike.

There is also a post somewhere on here on how to open up an older airbox. I did it to mine and it made a huge difference (almost as much as adding the old Buell racekit).

Does anyone know where I can get an open airbox lid other than at ASB? I would buy the one from ASB, but I dont need all the other crap to do the breather re-route since I already have done that. If there is nowhere else I can buy one would anyone with some more skill/equipment than I have be willing to make one for me? I have no problem paying someone from this site for the part. Thanks.

just installed the asb airbox delete kit, and my bike sounds alot better, actually starting to sound like a harley. am i the only one who noticed a large difference in the sound?
