air box screen

is it possable to buy just the small screen area by the fuel cap or does a whole new air box cover need to be purchased?

You can buy raw mesh, but you'd have to cut it to fit. I would like a stock piece as well.

i was just curious.....i traded plastics with a fellow forum member and mine didnt have a screen and his does.......hes looking at removing his and swapping it to to his new plastics using plasti weld or some type of epoxy. i just thought that if i could get this part i would reinstal it on my airbox cover later on

Well it does keep rodents out, but if you dont have that problem, then it's cosmetic. Mine has been off for months.

so the newer bikes can run the older style airbox cover and be fine without the opening in the front. Just trying to find out before he takes our covers apart.

You have to have the intake. Sorry I thought you were talking about the mesh. The older bikes have a hole in the frame and an intake using the left side scoop. 2006+ all don't have the whole in the frame. Instead the intake is on the top front of the airbox. You can buy an old airbox cover and cut it out though.

LVsleeper did this. I bought it from him and cleaned it up and put mesh in the whole.

needing to know about the screen was more for the guy i traded to. my bike is a vurtualy unmodded 04 12r so i dont need the screen in the cover. I am tossing around the idea of a race ecm and K&N. EMC spy is an option also....im just not so sure of myself when it comes to screwing with the only ecm i have. I do love the look of the screened opening on the new airbox covers and may try to attempt modding my cover later on, but for now its not needed and would only be cosmetic for me.
