airbox covers

They're all interchangeable but the ones from an XB9 and 1125 don't have the mesh vent in front like the ones for the XB12.

Early 12's didn't have the mesh either. The 06 or 07 Model Years started getting them, but the intake hole in the left side of the tank/frame went away to increase fuel capacity.

Mesh started in 06. I thought it was on both the 9s and 12s, hmmm... Yes, all airbox covers between all models 03 to 10 are interchangeable.

Yeah the airbox covers are all the same, the 03-05 have the hole in the frame that is why the airbox cover doesnt have the vent. You need the vent if you dont have the hole in the frame.

I really doubt you really need the vent. My airbox sets up off the frame far enough I'd think plenty of air leaks in around it...

My bike choked after I had the plastics painted the vent was taped because it need to be buffed still. I went for a ride around the block and it was struggling to get air.

Thread revival! Not worth my own thread, so here it is:

I just got a black airbox w/o vent at filler cap from an early model xb. Will I need to cut a hole and add mesh (or drill holes) around the gas filler cap if I want to use a non-vented airbox on my 2009 XT? Or will it get enough air from around the base of the airbox? Thanks in advance!

P.S. 2009 xb12xt with Hawk, K&N, and EBR ecm.
