I just need to blow off some steam... For those who don't know I live in Alabama. Our forecast for today calls for snow with a possible accumulation of... wait for it.... 3-4 inches. So of course the good people of Auburn knowing that the possibility of snow brings the possibility of Yeti attack have closed all schools the university and basically everything else except the Library where I work. Today was my day off but since all child care is closed today with schools half of our staff called in so now I have no day off... there is no snow... and even if there was, 3 inches couldn't stop a piss ant much less a as gas guzzling child shuttling SUV like 90% of people here drive. [mad][mad][mad][mad][mad][mad]

oh yeah almost forgot to mention I am also mad because I could barely make it through town and wal-mart last night because everyone and I mean everyone was out buying last minute "snow-in" supplies for if they couldnt make it in to town... 3 fucking inches people

FUCK!!!!!!!!!! did you say snow? Did the weather man say snow? Oh shit, what are we gonna do? Cancel school, buy fire wood. Hurry get to the store and buy up all the bread and milk, I don't know what the fuck we will make with bread and milk, but buy it anyway!! If the power goes out the milk will go bad, but at least we have all the fucking bread!!!! I live in NC and that shit happens every time snow is even mentioned. Really people, when was the last time we really got snowed in???? The worst snow I remember was in '87, and that was 3 feet. Fuck, in Chicago and other northern places, they wake up 3 hours early to dig their fuckin' cars out to go to work.

I know man, that's what I am saying. People here in the south just go nuckin futs when they hear snow!!! And they can't drive in the rain here in NC either. I challenge them to go down south around the gulf coast and Florida to see what driving in the rain is all about.

Yeah people here are about retards... I spent my early morning bitching because I had to work on my day off because everyone called in because most of town is closed... we now have light patches of snow here and there... and no matter who I talk to here I get the same story "well the snow could melt and refreeze and then the roads will be slick"... to which I am forced to reply and what about the billions of times that it rains while it is below 32 out should we close everything then too?

needless to say people are less than happy when I show no concern for unsunny conditions. Apparently all vehicles in Alabama are only made to be driven in 90 degree dry weather, at under 45 miles an hour, without turn signals, and only in the left hand lane.

I swear next time it snows here I'm buying a gorilla suit spray painting it white and wearing a sign that says beware snow means the yeties are coming

Dude, I hear ya
Back when I was in the Navy, I was stationed in San Diego and would travel back to Phoenix regularly. One year California Closed I-8, wait for it.......
"BECAUSE THEY EXPECTED SNOW!!!!" They finally opened it to 4wd or Chains, I went through, cleared the pass there was MAYBE an Accumulation of 1/4 inch on the shoulder of the road.

Sounds like the hype we get here in CA when it rains. Storm Watch 2010...there's a chance we'll see up to half an inch per hour in some areas.

wow...really?

an update we now have 2 inches... went to the bank huge sign "Closed at noon for inclement weather"

I plan on demanding that they close everytime it rains and is below 32 degrees for the saftey of their staff the roads may get icy

I feel your pain! Was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA, just a stones throw away from Auburn, and 1 inch of snow threw a fuckin' monkey wrench into everything. Grew up in Mississippi and just the hint of snow threw the whole state into a panic. This from a state that goes through cat 3 and 4 hurricanes without batting an eye. I now live in central FL. Here, you either learn how to drive in the rain or you get hurt.

hey Browland.. here's the deal... this might help you feel a little bit better about it...

they ARE retards... and here's the proof... how many of them do you see having multiple car piles-ups and other accidents on clean dry pavement? Now consider how many MORE of them you see off in the ditch and having all sorts of accidents when it rains...

Do you really want those idiots out on the road with even a half inch of snow accumulated on the road? They'd be 2 ton death machines out there...

remember.. the most dangerous thing in the world is a 30 something soccer mom in her Tahoe with her iPhone to her ear!

Hey Browland, I feel your pain bra. I had to work today also. I work at the Hyundai plant in montgomery and they closed the whole plant but my area. To top it off I only had a fifth of my crew but still had to make production. And before I made it home I had some of my employees calling wanting to know if tomorrow was cancelled as well. Oh yeah I have to work weekends too. WTF! When I was in Nebraska, in college, class was cancelled one time for -19 wind chill and snow. I never have to wear a heavy coat here, not even today, and people around these parts act like is freaking Alaska. My only fear was not the snow but driving with all the retards who cant drive period. Especially, if it did get cold enough to ice over. I cant wait to leave this god forsaken state!!

We got 3 inches (west of CLT). Interstate and US highway on the way home was covered, but easily passable. Problem was, too many stoopid people slowing to a crawl and then losing their momentum on the uphills. Then hitting their brakes (hard) on downhills and getting sideways.

Gah.

BUT, I am SO ready for Spring!!! [mad]

LOL everyones mad at me at work now because I came in today complaing that we should be closed... my reasoning is that it is sunny outside which causes me to squint making driving very dangerous this is amplified by little bits of remaining snow reflecting light... also all the water from melting snow could cause me to hydroplane... driving is just plain dangerous these days we should just close everything and stay at home to make gardens[cool] brah bra bra braaa
