I did the crankcase breather mod a few weeks back. Happy to have no crud and condensation going into my airbox, and somewhat reduced "coughing" at low revs. I also just changed from HD Syn3 to Amsoil 20W-50 in both holes, and apart from smoother gear shifting and slightly cooler running, I've noticed another real benefit of Amsoil over Syn3. When I drain the catch can on my breather mod, I'm getting almost zero emulsified oil now, and just a few drops of condensation! Plus my breather filter, which was getting covered in Syn3 has zero oil hitting it now, with Amsoil. Not sure what's in the chemistry of these oils that could make such a difference, but whatever it is, I'm an Amsoil convert!

Not sure if the different oil could be responsible for an improvement in gas mileage, but since using Amsoil in the engine & gearbox, I'm getting 56 mpg! Before, I got 51. Maybe less friction with Amsoil? Not sure, but I'm impressed!

I changed to Amsoil about a month ago... the original owner used standard HD 20w-50... I noticed a huge difference.. reduced heat.. better fuel economy.. and it runs much quieter too! [up]

I believe the AMSOIL is produced exclusively for motorcycle motors marketed directly at harley davidson vee twins. There is a picture of a harley motor on the bottle.

question I've never changed the oil myself yet. Moneys tight plus I know my way around engines, and I readed the manual and it reads like its harder than it should be, Is it? Drain oil from trans, engine; replace filter refill like every engine right. Am I missing something...by the way I am going to use amsoil(which I could start selling it). Thanks

Amsoil is it's own company that makes a whole line of fluids from oils for anything to brake fluid and cleaners. I've been using them in auto racing for years. They are pretty muchthe only oil company that will publish actual test results for industry standard tests and not just put out "comparison" tests. Great company and oil. [up]

Oof, $60 for the oil changes? Seems a bit steep, but if it's worth it, I'll try it. I need 5 quarts for both the crankcase and primary, right?

How about those that don't want to do a breather re-route, this may be a gift from heaven. No crud in the airbox and cooler and smoother.Wow

Not to brag but, well, ya really to brag about it. I got 66.5 mpg with my race kitted XB12R consistently on the long legs of a trip. I consistently get from 49 to 51 mpg in town and low as 40 or so mph carving the mountains.

I use Mobil1 full syn 20-50w for air cooled V-twins. But good on the Amsoil working good too. I'm sure both where engineered in labs and on race tracks. Good stuff.
